I have been recently diagnosed with colitis. I was on Sulfazine 2pills every 12 hrs. Then the GI dr changed me to Lealda when sulfazine was working fine. Then I had another flare up. I went back to my sulfazine on my own and since I have been on prednisone too. I woke one night with sever ankle pain and swelling. went to the dr he pushed me away and said I need to go see a rheumotoid artritis dr. so I went home in pain. next day my husband took me to his dr. he gave a steroid shot to help with swelling and pain. also drew blood for tests of rheumotoid arthritis. both tests came back negitive but he still wants me to go see specialists. Then they put me on a 6 day regimin of tapering prednislone, I felt great and only little swelling in right ankle but no pain. today was first day of no steroid and my left leg is sore to touch by knee and feels weird to the ankle. my other ankle is bothersome also. Now my legs feel like rigamortis has set in. I am having a hard time walking. Please help me I dont know what to do? Also i dont see the arthritis dr until June 21.

how much prednisone are you taking? Find a doctor (gastroenterologist) who will LISTEN...ask around, check doctors for past complaints against them etc. Good luck to you. Prednisone gives me terrible side effects...wobbly legs, foggy vision, tingling in fingers and toes, shaking hands, trouble thinking straight. I HATE it, but it does cover up the symptoms.

it was a prednislone pack 6 5 4 3 2 1 for six days each day i decrease a pill. it said 4 mg. it was differnt then the stuff i had last week but was still a steroid. 2 days off pills. i had a rough day. went to regular dr. today they did a test in both legs for blood clots and none. Then they give me a long acting steroid shot today. should kick in , in a bout 48 hrs. they said if that didnt work they could add another prednislone pack to it. today my legs feel like rigamortis has set in. I cant hardly move. they are going to try and keep me comfortable until june 21 to see arthritis dr.. in the mean time should i get another appt with my GI dr who wasnt helpful the first timeI went.?? I read online that colitis can cause swelling in the joints, they sure never told me anything like that.

One of the most common extra-intestinal complaints of ulcerative colitis is joint pains. about 20 percent of uc patients experience extra-intestinal symptoms. Joint pains often come and go along with uc flares. Joint pains are bad when you're uc is flaring badly, pains go away when you reach remission. These joint pains are a form of arthritis (meaning joint inflammation) and can happen at any age. It can cause swelling. It often impacts big joints (knees, ankles, arms). It can impact the lower spine.

Sulfazine helps with joint pains.

So can anyone tell me what I can do to help my flare up lesson or go away? This joint pain is terrible I still cant hardly walk. Finding it hard to even go to work. I dont wanna loose my job, I need it, thats where I get my health insurance too.
