Hi all,
My name is Emma and I'm new here, just wanted some advice from people who are, going through the same as me, I was diagnosed with mild proctitis about four years ago and have been pretty much OK until end of may this year when I had a bad flare up and was in hospital for 10 days, they put me on steroids and other meds as well as what I was already on, as soon as I came off the steroids my symptoms came back so they have put me back on them till my next colonoscopy on Tuesday, my question is does anyone else suffer with bad back pain and is it connected to the condition? It's mostly OK in the daytime but in bed at night it is awful, I literally can't move and it goes, into spasm, it has me in tears it's so painful. The chemist gave me co codamal but that does nothing, what else could I take?

The meds I'm on are:
Mezavant xl 1200mg...2 tabs twice a day
The pred
A calcium tablet
Pentasa suppository... 1 at night
I think they may put me on something else though as I think as, soon as I come off the steroids the symptoms will come back again. Xx

global pains are quite common with UC and some of the associated meds - everyone is different in how they react -

you should double your mez to 4 pills per day, add a rectal mesalamine enema at night in lieu of the sup, instead, doing it in the morning, and get as much rest as you can -

as far as the pains, my go to is warm showers, baths, or hot pads -

oh, sorry - my mistake - i read incoherently ! no, stick with the 4 per day -

an enema is a liquid you squirt up the same place you put the supp - it covers a much broader area of your colon - but they are a bit more involved than the supps - many folks including me did/do them at bedtime - administer and lites out, hopefully retaining for the rest of the nite -

as far as the reflex, again it could be a combination of things = UC + meds - anything like that that you experience now and not before usually is -

sorry, but i fortunately don't have any experience in the reflux department - pretty sure others will help -

Ah OK thank you, I honestly don't think I could do the enema, they made me do 2 while in hospital for a bowel prep before the camera, told me to hold it in for at least 15 mins, within a minute I was on the loo and out it all came and then the same again the second time, for some reason just couldn't hold it in. The pain in my back isn't lower, mine is in the middle, just so very painful that I'm unable to move, I've tried taking painkillers before I go to bed but not sure it works that way anyway, think I may go gp and see if they can give me something stronger, all they seem to care about is the hospital getting the flare up under control but the back pain is annoying too cause it wakes me up and then I just want to nap all day
