I have done some reading on this so I will share what I know. Whatever you do I would work with your doc. My guess is the antibiotics will knock it out and I wish you the best. Hopefully others with experience will share.
Berberine has been shown to prevent CDiff relapse in animal models treated with antibiotics. Some people use it for colitis. I tried this for my active UC but didn't stick with it, it seems to increase my bowel movements and it gives me insomnia. For that matter berberine is very antibacterial. There are numerous studies published in the national library of medicine on this topic.
There is a non virulent "probiotic" form of clostridium (clostridium butyricum miyairi) This bacteria has been tested in laboratory and clinical settings for years. It has been shown to be quite safe, it does NOT produce botulins or neurotoxins, etc that other clostriduim species produce. In hospitals in Japan, it is standard practice to give this probiotic during and after antibiotic administration as a prophylaxis against Cdiff infection. It is thought to work by competing with or displacing CDiff. Wikipedia has a good wright up on C. butyricum or CBM 588.
I ordered CBM 588 off of amazon, not for cdiff, but because I am experimenting with different probiotics for my active UC and because it produces Butyric Acid. I ordered from Japan, delivery is quite slow even with the very expensive expedited shipping.
Sorry to hear of your struggle and hopefully the antibiotics knock it out.
