Remicade infusion in 1 hour

for those of you who are on Remicade, do any of you get your infusion in 1 hour. I am in Canada and i was told of this before the holidays and i was asked if i wanted my infusion in 1 hr instead of 2 hrs. I was wondering if they do this in the States or other countries.

I had my first infusion of Remicade on Thursday, it was a 2 hour infusion. My consultant mentioned that I would eventually be able to have the infusion in just half an hour instead of 2 but I'm not really sure how it works. I think they just give you a less diluted solution. I'm from the UK so yeah other countries do this.

The remicade manufacturer says 2 hour minimum on infusions. Why? A slower process limits the odds of an infusion reaction, and increases the odds of catching it early. The nurse monitors your temp and pulse for signs of a reaction and adjusts the drip rate accordingly.

Unless they've changed the specifications, I'd stick with 2 hours. Maybe some practices have done infusions faster, I've never seen it.

I've never had it in less than 2 hours. The infusion nurses have never offered less and I doubt the GI group would approve. I've asked if they're using much entyvio and they have a handful of patients; the GI group is making them infuse entyvio under the same protocol as remicade.

I would highly advise against doing it in an hour. As John said, if it's infused too quickly you might get a reaction. I know I did. about 3 years ago, the nurse made the mistake of putting the IV drip on a faster infuse. My chest got super tight, it felt like I couldn't get enough air and my bp increased as well as my pulse rate. She just happened to be in the room with me when it happened. As soon as she slowed down the drip, I started feeling normal again. But boy was that a scary experience!

I have been taking Remicade infusions for Rheumatoid Arthritis for eight years or so. I started with 2 hour infusions, with no side effects. I don't have any antihistamines or steroids with my infusions after the first one. At first the 300 ccs of Remicade were diluted in a pint of saline. A few years ago, they reduced the saline to about 4 ounces. My drips now take an hour and fifteen minutes and I have had no side effects.

Where I am they'll knock the infusions down to half an hour after only having 3 or 4 of them. Dunno what people's responses to that are like but I don't think they'd do it if it were bad.
