UC Flare-Up Post C-Diff

Hi All,

I've just gotten over a bought of really bad C-Diff. Last test was negative and going to do another stool sample tomorrow just to be sure it's not back.

I am now trying to battle a flare-up. I'm so upset after 3 blissful years in remission with not one symptom, I just amn't improving which makes me wonder if the C-Diff is back. I had my Infliximab infusion last Tuesday so a week tomorrow. I am also on 40mg pred since last Monday and I'm still going around 8 times a day with D and no formation. I usually respond much faster and better to steroids than this. I finished Imuran in January after 5 years on it. It never made a difference for me but I wonder was it working alongside the Infliximab.

I just don't know what to expect because this isn't a typical flare-up because it was caused by C-Diff. Maybe I'm expecting too much too soon! Really upset and anxious as I have no other treatment options available !

I had a very similar event 2 years ago. about 7-10 days after cdiff dx, I started having my UC cramps which is my flare indicator. My doc wouldn't treat it as such saying it was the cdiff but he agreed to get me in for a flex sig. It showed I was flaring so he moved my remicade up so I could get it the next day. I was so sick and had to lay down for remicade and needed zofran. By that afternoon, I couldn't keep my meds down so went back to the hospital for admission. It took IV steroids to get that flare under control even though it was only proctitis. I'm not surprised it's taking more to get you under control. It's definitively worth being re-tested for cdiff. I would also ask for rectal meds. I asked for rowasa enemas during that admission. When I was discharged from the hospital, I went home on prednisone and rowasa and it took me several weeks to start feeling better. It was one of my most miserable flares since I had a rectum of fire.
