hey guys been busy but wanted to get a post going, so was on remicade for 3 years or more, my body developed antibodies so now on humera I'm on the end of week 2, how long did it take for you guys to get back to normal or some kind of remission? i still have blood in stool and a ton of mucus, the mucus is annoying as you all know

After my first loading dose of 4 pens, I woke up the next morning with no stomach pain (I had been waking up daily with it), but by the next day it was back. I think it was just the initial shock to my system. However, within a week I was starting to feel better. Pain was a lot better, everyday, stools were starting to firm and I was seeing less and less blood. I'd say about 3 weeks and I was completely sold on this drug. However, when I spoke to the pharmacy that sends my pens, the pharmacist said that's very odd for someone with uc to start seeing improvement that soon. He said usually uc patients it takes a little longer, so don't get discouraged. I would recommend this drug over and over and over again. Before this, I was in a very bad place.

i hear ya there, i guess yea I'm being impatient i will say stools went almost immediately to firm coming from liquid before, i just wish the mucus would go away and the extreme urgency

At 2 weeks I had a glimmer that things were getting better. At 3-4 weeks it was an obvious improvement. Now at 6 weeks I'm in substantial remission.

I think it has a lot to do with the extent of your ulceration and inflammation. The worse those are, the longer it takes for the healing to make a difference in your daily symptoms.

BTW, I found that green tea and pomegranate extract stopped my mucus.

Did you respond quickly to Remicade? I developed antibodies to it also but responded pretty quickly. Never got to Humera because of insurance problems but maybe you can gauge results from your Remicade experience.

Generally, you'll get a response within 6 weeks if your going to get one. Some do respond quicker. I'd hope for a quick response but prepare for extra time, just in case you need it.

I'm nearing the six week Mark and I have finally noticed some improvement from the time I started using humira. However, I am still facing some of the same issues as you such as mucus and loose stools. Its about 50/50, half are formed half are not. Mucus is the main issue. Urgency has significantly decreased, but there is stool the occassional instance when the countdown is on.

I have been on Humira for about 3 1\2 months. I have seen signs of improvement, i.e., not as much urgency, less pain, some formed stools and less often. I do still have good days and bad days. I also still take Deodorized Tincture of Opium twice daily, Apriso 4 daily and Canasa as well, tapering on that started about a month ago. I would love to lose some of the other medications but just don't feel like I can at this point. Moral of the story, don't give up hope yet! I have seen improvement and hoping to see more. It just takes time. Good luck!

It took about six weeks for me. Still have recurrence when it's close to my shot date but so much better.

How much time on Humira do you have now? Have you started to taper off any of your other UC meds? I'm at six weeks and have dropped the Canasa suppositories.
