Finally home from the hospital and a few questions about steroids and not pooping

Finally out of the hospital after a week, yea! But really bummed that I think it was a waste of time. The doctors admitted they had no idea what to do for me and I still don't know if my problems are strictly from UC or something else.

Is steroid withdrawal pretty immediate? I was on 30 mg of prednisone when I went in and the last few days they upped it to IV Solu-medrol 20 mg every 8 hrs and released me back on 40 mg prednisone. I'm exhausted. How long does it take to feel more normal?

I'm very worried about not actually pooping. I'm so not used to having to worry about that! I'm really only having small bloody mucus or blood but not actual stool. Anyone dealt with that? I'm worried about getting backed up and having more problems.

I agree with Sherry that if you had pain killers, this could also cause constipation.

I had a kidney stone a few months ago, went on pain killers and I became constipated. Constipation can be scary when you are used to going to the restroom so much.

Prednisone always makes things stop like someone turned off the faucet for me. I know initially you didn't have a strong response to pred, maybe the IV steroid jump started some healing? Either that, of perhaps it is the narcotics slowing things.

It's good you're home at least. Hopefully you start feeling better quickly.
