Not to discount the seriousness of surgery, but all these options sound like there are some risks, some of them pretty large risks too. Surgery could be the end of this illness and the end of worrying about complications from medication. I did it and I am loving life. I have a j-pouch, so no external bag, and I live life like I did pre-UC. I am med free. The only difference is that I have a few scars from the surgeries and I go to the bathroom more often - which isn't fun, but it's better than worrying about drugs, skin cancer, the future with UC... at a certain point, you're taking huge risks to potentially buy yourself some time. Might as well just have surgery and avoid the risk. That's what I did for myself. it's a very personal decision and I completely understand if it's way out there and not what you want to hear. My experience has been positive.
