Acupuncture for UC

I have had left-sided UC since the age of 13, when I was diagnosed (now 33). I have a sister who is 4 years older than me and has suffered from 'bowel issues' for the past 10 or so years on and off. At times this has involved bleeding, mucus, urgency etc for up to a few months at a time and then it resolves on its own, often for years. She has long suspected (as have I) that she has mild UC, but has not done anything about it because in her own words "what have they been able to do for you". For the past 6 months she has been experiencing a particularly severe flare (indistinguishable from my own flares), made an appointment with a gastroenterologist, and went and had acupuncture done out of desperation (as she had a holiday coming up). Much to both of our surprise, the bleeding and mucus stopped on the first day, and she only went to the bathroom about 3-4 times instead of the usual 20+ with no accidents. She then had to take emergency contraception due to birth control fail and started bleeding again. She again went back for acupuncture and it stopped again. I don't know whether this is important but it was Japanese acupuncture not Chinese. Does anyone have experience with this as I'm thinking of giving it a shot as I'm starting to flare.

Who knows...but if it is working I can't really see the harm in riding it out a little. Stranger things have happened and different things work for different people. I did acupuncture and loved the feeling but it didn't help my UC. If you are having success however I would see what happens.

Acupuncture is a great pain killer for me and regulates my menstrual cycle. I think it helps the UC a bit but doesn't cure me for sure. I haven't been going since I've been on strong immune suppressants as worry a bit about skin not taking to it well but would like to go for Tuina.

I tried it and while it was very relaxing and calming, it didn't do a thing for my UC flare. Kind of expensive too.

I went for acupuncture for assistance conceiving. Although unrelated, it did make one of my nasal polyps fall out which was a complete surprise and a blessing. I am now thinking of trying it for UC with the same acupuncturist. I also tried chinese herbs. It worked in the end (I think it was the herbs/acupunture) as I now have a child. The major challenge for me would be that I can't even take western meds without vomiting so am unsure whether I could take chinese meds.
