Rectal pain and urgency

I am new to this forum but am finding it very useful as it is opening up my eyes to how many people actually suffer from this diesease!

A little about my colitis story, i was diagnosed in June of 2015 and was put on steroids and pentasa. That worked well and i stayed well until roughly feb of this year when i started another flare. That lasted for a while again but it soon got better with another course of steroids. Recently in the past 2 months of so however i have gotten quite bad with my symptoms. I am now on methotrexate, vedolizumab, steroids and pentasa!

The symptoms have died down considerably, however i am still having some symptoms which i am finding difficult to deal with. These are the fact that i am experiencing quite a lot of rectal pain and urgency to have a BM. When i sit on the toilet however, little or nothing passes at all, mainly mucus and gas (its horrible!). I have noticed the pain is worse in the mornings as i wake up and right before bed. My last colonoscope showed signs of ulceration in the lower rectum area.

Any pointers on how to deal with this and improve my symptoms? Should i be asking the gastro for rectal meds?

Hello. I found that the lower rectal area responded to Canasa suppositories. Have you tried them yet?

Ask for an anti-inflammatory mesalamine-based enema (rowasa/pentasa/salofalk etc) or suppository (canasa).

.UC starts in the rectum. With formed stool, that means your inflammation is limited in the rectum.

Rectal meds help whether your symptoms are limited or throughout.
