Flare Up Since April 6th Colonoscopy

I had a routine colonoscopy, and I have had an attack ever since. My doctor took more biopsies than usual because I had difficulty ingesting the prep and I was not all clear. I told him this before the procedure and I would have rescheduled had I know this would be the result.

Anyway, I am on the 6th week of a 5 ASA suppository, the hydrocortisone type did not work, and although the bleeding has decreased significantly, I am still bleeding and I am still running to the bathroom.

Prednisone is not an option for me.

Anyone else experience anything like this?

same for me last October. I had to have 2nd colonoscopy because my surgeon sent me to a gastric guy who would not accept the other scope results and pictures this guy was a real jerk. I told him that i could not do anything but the pills because of trouble with the liquid prep. He then gave me 40 some odd pill to punish me when all i needed was the 24. He also said i was not that clear and had to take more biopsy's...I am still have trouble from it. As for relief I a few months ago got extra virgin coconut oil and put a tablespoon on a toasted bagel and for the first time in a while felt wonderful. I am now having trouble again. I just had to do some heavy lifting and now i am in pretty bad shape working on getting better. You can also use raw natural coconut oil. try it and never let them do 2 in one year...that's my advise.

My symptoms became far worse after my scope, when I mentioned it to the GI he said that it's not uncommon for scopes to exacerbate symptoms. A warning would have been nice!

The same thing happened to me this past May. As Sore Tum mentioned, this is not uncommon at all (and why many of us are reluctant to have colonoscopies more than absolutely necessary).

One thing that helped me get back to normal was to double up on my probiotics (I've had success with Natren brand). A strong dose of a good quality probiotic may benefit you as well.

I'm suspecting you're not on enough medication.

What symptoms are you having at this time?

Where in the colon is your UC....how high?

the same happens for me. I really stock up on the probiotics afterwards.

I will try your suggestions of more probiotics and coconut oil.

This illness has been devastating. Last summer I had to leave a graduate school program because I could not stop bleeding. I found a specialist, one of only a handful in the U.S., who only has UC patients. I took Mercaptopurine (6MP), a chemo drug, from June through December and that thinned my hair, made me nauseous, turned my skin gray, made me weak, and caused me to throw up. I also affected my urinary tract. I had to have a blood test every week because of the toxicity of the drug. Anyway, I also took Azulfidine for a month, but I was allergic to it. I went off the 6 MP in December because it made me so sick. Bottom line: I am still bleeding and the biopsies still show UC. The 6 MP did not work.

This is a very difficult illness to treat and it affects so many areas of your life. I think I am handling the illness well, but it is hard sometimes.

I know this can't be answered, but I wonder why Pred wasn't an option? Pred is the only drug that works with my enemas a 1-2 punch.
