Did you take pneumococcal vaccine?

My Primary care doctor keeps suggesting taking this vaccine since I have chronic condition and I am on 6mp. I did take flu vaccine but have not taken pneumococcal vaccine yet.

What do you all think? Like to know how you feel about it and why?

I received it last fall (fall '16). If I were a woman and were pregnant or planning to become pregnant, then I might not take it, but I figure since I'm on Remicade and a male, then it would be a good idea to get it. I haven't experienced any side effects from it. I wish I didn't have to get it, but I felt the benefit outweighed any risks in my situation.

Since you're on 6mp, then it might be a good idea to get it since those of us on these immunosuppressants and/or immunomodulators are more susceptible to infections.

If you do decide to get vaccinated, then I would make sure your doctor adheres to the proper vaccination protocol. I believe I received Prevnar sometime around September and then a couple of months later my doctor recommended I get Pneumovax. However, it's recommended that you take these at least one year apart if you're going to take both.

Yes, I did about 2 years ago @ the suggestion of my pcp. I had also just been discharged from the hospital and it was winter.

I had it when I was on 6mp (So around 6 or so years ago). Never had an issue with it.

@3timechamp- that is not good. My doctor said it protects against only one virus streptococcus pneumococci. which is the most dangerous one.

Started Remicade this fall and I got the flu and the pneumococcal vaccines in december. I am on prednisone too. Got fever and went to bed early that evening, but I was all good the next day. And my arm hurts for a week. But that's it. I also think it's good to keep all vaccines up to date, it could have saved me from pneumonia and flu in the past....
