Thanks Heather, Dr has given me predsol instead but maybe I should give the Pentasa another try. I'm really nervous of taking prednisolone because the Dr thinks I either have ulcerative colitis or possibly diverticulitis. They think it's more likely I have UC but I am nervous of taking the prednisolone in case it makes me worse if I do have diverticulitis

The Pentasa dose is 1g. I am waiting for a colonoscopy as I haven't yet had a definitive diagnosis. I have had flares since June last year but after being admitted to hospital last week due to blood loss and dehydration they have finally referred me for a colonoscopy. The Consultant in hospital ordered a colonoscopy within 1 -2 weeks. However, I've just rung the colonoscopy department and they said that their consultants have overruled it and put me on the 8 weeks list This is why the Dr are giving me medication to try and control my symptoms in the meantime because I can't keep going on like this. The only problem is they want to start me on prednisolone orally as well but I am concerned because they haven't 100% ruled out diverticulitis and if I take the steroids it could make me worse. The Consultant in hospital didn't think I have diverticulitis as it didn't show on the ct scan and thought that it is more likely that I have ulcerative colitis.

Yes I have the predsol enema to use as well. I think I might start using that and hold off from taking the prednisolone orally and just see how the enemas go. The pain I have is low left sided so I think the enema should reach the area that needs it.

Had quite a lot of stool samples taken before and whilst being on the antibiotics and they've all been clear.
