So I've been laying low and feel a little better. Doc called in a test for a virus that could cause similar symptoms as colitis (can't remember what it is), along with a. C diff test. After driving around to two diff labs yesterday, I missed the onethatccould do a c diff test (stool drop off) by two minutes of closing! So I had to wait until this am and sat in the waiting room for over an hour- the place was packed!

Anyhow, I notice I usually have some puffy area around where I wipe, but today I noticed a huge bludge. I put some prep H on it and went about my business. I just looked now and there is a huge hemmroid- it's a big blue vein thing and it's so gross looking! I called my
Mom (yes I'm 36) to see if there is anything else I can do. It's pretty uncomfortable and I'm pretty sure it's from all the straining.

Could it be that's what's causing my symptoms? Or do hemis not normally cause you to go so much. I'm pretty sure it's just wishful thinking that it's not a flare. Anything else it can be? I'm afraid to google pics of hemis? For fear or what I will find.

I've gotten them that large before where my GI sent me to a general surgeon and he lanced it right in his office. The worst part is the numbing part. After that it was just a couple little cuts and squeezes the clot out. It's instant relief aside from the light pain from the cuts. There was a small empty shell of skin left but the body absorbs it. After a day I felt miles better. The straining is the number one cause that created mine.

Often a topical steroid is tried to decrease the size. Surgery or sometimes banding can be used to remove them.

Sounds like an external hemmie. There are different meds to try, I use proctocedyl, but it's not available in the US.

You could try calmoseptine, steroid cream, lidocaine, anusol.....definitely call the doctor and ask for something to treat it asap. Sitz baths are good as well.

Mine were so painful that every time I got one I went straight back to the surgeon to lance them. It took about five minutes. Within a couple days there was virtually no pain at all

Ugh i bet that lancing would be painful but a relief! I have a scope on Thursday and I can only imagine how much fun the prep is gonna be on Wed :/ with all that wiping! I'm hoping they calm down before then. I have two the size of raisins - sorry tmi!

I did ask the doc on Fri if the proctofoam or cortornemas would help and she said prob no more than what the pred will do for the inflammation.

My fiancé got my a donut to bring to work and I was using it at home today- what a difference in comfort.

Sadly, though, I still had to go 10+ times today. I stop counting after 10. Less blood tho!

Sounds a huge PITA 😊 i can imagine your pain, especially with your coming prep.


Try sitz baths for sure.

The only uncomfortable part is the numbing procedure, after that all you feel is a little pressure. When the numbing wears off, there will be some mild pain from the incisions but will be virtually done the next day.

I'm trying the baths but I just realize it still hurts to sit in the tub. So I lay down but then I have to fill the whole thing bc I get cold. Chilly porcelain. Hoping to help. Butt is raw from wiping-and I haven't started my prep yet? Yikes!!

You can buy an appliance from the pharmacy that sits under the toilet seat. They work better than sitting in the tub.

doogiedo - been battling with hemmi's for a few months... not as bad as what you describe. My doc had put me on Analpram which was pretty helpful. Now my insurance in the New Year decided not to cover it (or the generic... go figure) so I'm using prep H. Also been doing Epson Salt baths, trying to soak for about 25 minutes at night before using the prep H. Definitely has helped a lot.
