Good luck on your endoscope tomorrow. Do you have an Ulcerative Colitis diagnosis? Have you had a stool test to check for infectious causes to your symptoms?
Some were smokers quit and then got UC, as smoking likely masked the UC symptoms. Smoking tends to thicken the mucosal walls of the intestine, a problem area that is often thinner in UC patients and therefore problematic. However, once the pandora's box of UC is opened up, there is no closing it up again and making it go away. Sometimes reintroducing smoking helps some with symptoms, but it doesn't stop UC or work as your only treatment. Sometimes it helps, other times it makes no difference.
