Recommend a probiotic

Im looking to switch probiotics. What is the best? I am on flora udos choice super 8 hi potency probiotic. 42 billion cells. I already did align and culturelle and didnt notice any improvements. Looking for something to help with stopping diarrhea

VSL#3 is a good one - you can get a prescription for it from your doctor. I use that when I'm having flare symptoms, but for everyday I like PB8 and Renew Life 50 Billion.

Never heard of vsl#3 my dr recommended align but that didnt seem to do anything?

VSL 3 is designed for the specific treatment of IBS, UC and J Pouch. It comes in OTC and Prescription form. I take the prescription for my J Pouch and it's 900 billion bacteria.

"VSL#3 is a high potency probiotic medical food designated for the dietary management of ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and an ileal pouch. VSL has been tested for IBD - it was not necessarily designed for IBD.

Other probiotics (if taken in sufficient concentration) might be as effective as VSL - but have not had expensive clinical trials.

VSL is refrigerated instead of freeze-dried, and has more of the live healthy backetia inside. But it is expensive.

There is no "best", as the best one has strains that you personally are lacking and doe snot have strains that might irritate you personally. Everyone's gut microbiome is a bit unique - but there are some general changes with IBD.

often good bacteria are depleted and e.coli forms overgrow with IBD. Some strains the L. acidophilus have been found to combat e.coli overgrowth

there is some trial an error to find an affordable dosage that seems to provide you personally a benefit.

If you are looking for something to stop D and want an affordable option, I really like Digestive Advantage. The strain in it bacillus coagulans has really helped me. I use it with my ileostomy but it slows down and helps my output. When I use this my ostomy really calms down. There are different ones. I try to use one with 1-2 billion.

I can't remember the full explanation but this strain has also shown to be effective at helping with population of god bacteria when taken with L acidophilus.

Is it true the more billion cells the better? I went to whole foods to look at the probiotics and they said people with ibs and ibd should go on one yhat is in the high billions. Im on one that 42 billion cells not sure if i should go higher?

It depends on what strain your are using and how many multi-strain. Personally from personal use I didn't find taking 50 billion vs 20 billion to matter for what worked for me.

Also a strain like bacillus coagulans you wouldn't want more than 2-3 billion. It is a different strain than your typical acidophilus and bifidus strains.
