Hey everyone.
I've been going though my first flare since diagnosed. It started in December with frequency, pain, blood, etc. My meds pre flare were 4g of 5ASA daily. During the flare I was given Budesonide 6g daily and salofalk enemas nightly. I have to say that within one month I was back to going once daily and I've been doing so for the past 2 months... the only thing I can't seem to knock is the blood.... I went in for a scope last week and the GI said I have about 50% less inflammation which is great news! We talked about altering meds but he was reluctant to put me on steroids. He said to maintain these meds for another 2 months and if things don't get better he recommended I start remicade every 8 weeks for 2 years! Anyways, I guess my real question is what can I do to help stop the bleeding? It's almost always at the tail end of my bm so I'm figuring it's higher up in my colon? Bright red and usually covering the last 2-3 inches of my bm and on the paper.. please give me some pointers I'm begging to loose hope.

When you were scoped, where was the inflammation?

Is it possible that the tissue is not fully healed, "friable" and the stool scrapes it on the way out? I had that happen at one point. The gut can be so slow to heal!

It's great that your inflammation is less than it was. I am sure someone on here will have some good ideas for you!

Yes im currently taking 4g pentasa, 6g cortiment (budsonide) and salofalk enemas nightly...I forgot to mention that I had about a week and a half period last month where I was completely symptom free and then the blood came back... which is why I went In for a scope...

Only 2 months on the meds you're using at this point. I suggest giving it another 2 and go from there. Rectum is very stubborn. Maybe askn he doc for steroid suppositories for use during the day and continue with the Salofalk enemas at night. What dosage of salofalk enemas...4g?

I've been through the same and was once on nightly meds for 4 months with a very slow tapering to maintenance.

Are you on any probiotics?

Remi at this point is premature in my perspective. Your choice with med considerations.

Blood can be the very last symptom to go away for some of us. How many bms are you having a day total? Any urgency? Are they formed?

50 percent improvement is good but you're still on steroids and should look a whole lot better, 2 months in. I'd wager stronger medications are soon in your future.

Have immunomodulators been discussed (azathioprine/imuran or 6mp)? Often they are tried before biologics like remicade.

We discussed imuran, however my GI doesn't want to put me on it since I've had pancreatitis twice in the last 2 years and he said that imuran has a higher chance of pancreatitis being a symptom.
I'm not currently on probiotics.

My stool is fully formed for the most part... no urgency and I'm going once a day, every morning an hour after breakfast usually.
