Embaressing Reaction to Entocort Enema - Any ladies that can help?

Try sitting in a little salt water to soothe the sore areas and then after drying thoroughly apply either coconut oil or Emu oil, both of which are good for Vjays. For areas just outside and around your Vjay try Desitin cream, it works extremely well. It is actually for diaper rashes, but who cares.

Yes, sounds to me like if it's pouring back out then the nozzle isn't far enough in. You may think it is but you really gotta make sure it is all the way in.

No, but obviously I had no suggestion regarding that part but I've done my fair share of enemas.

Similar problem but I'm male so maybe not exactly the same. I was supposed to start using the Rowasa enemas but my rectal area is very sore and irritated so the stiff enema applicator and the small stiff bottle were extremely difficult to insert into my rectum and then squeeze. The liquid would just squirt back out and the sores around my rectum would burn and burn.

I did 2 things:
First I bought a 2 pack of Fleet enemas at the Dollar General for a couple of bucks and I took the applicator off the fleet bottle and put it on my Rowasa enema bottle. The Fleet applicator is more pliable and softer so it didn't hurt as bad when it was inserted into my bum. The thread size on the Rowasa and the Fleet are the same size so it was easy to unscrew the applicators and swap them out. I could of also just poured my prescription enema into the fleet bottle if the applicator won't fit on your type of enema that your using.

Second, my bum and rectal area are so inflamed and sore that it was very painful to insert the enema. In fact it hurt so bad I cried the first time. So if your experiencing any pain around the rectum here is what worked for me. Go to Wal-mart or any pharmacy and buy some Lidocaine cream. It's a pain numbing cream that people who have anal fissures use. Walgreens has their own brand for about $6.99 and it has 4% lidocaine in it. Wal-mart has an equate brand for about the same price and it has 5% lidocaine. There are numerous name brands including RectiCare which is what I use.

Take the lidocaine cream and rub a little around your rectal area. Then wait about 5 minutes to let it soak in and numb the area. Now you can proceed with the enema but this numbing cream might help your other sore areas as well. I've used it for even a cut on my finger to make the pain go away for a while.

One last thing, as someone said, you have to insert the whole enema applicator and even then in my case, I have to keep a little pressure on the bottle as I squeeze in the liquid. By pressure I mean that I keep pushing in like I'm trying to insert the applicator deeper even though it's all the way inside. If I slack off on the pressure the liquid sometimes squirts back out. For the last few nights I've had my wife do it for me cause the pain for me is bad and it was easier for me to bear it while she inserted the enema and squeezed. She's an RN so I'm lucky that she has given a lot of enemas and wasn't grossed out by it lol

Also the Cavilon cream uses an ingredient called Dimethicone and it was developed by 3M corporation as a barrier to prevent skin irritation due to feces, urine and other fluids. It is used in a lot of barrier creams but Cavilon only has 1.3% dimethicone.
I use Nurture Barrier Cream sold on Amazon cause it has 5% dimethicone. Cost $14.95 for 3 bottles plus shipping if you don't have Amazon Prime. Still doesn't seem to help all that much so sometimes I use Vaseline with Aloe in it instead. The Vaseline is thicker and seems to stop the burning better but one downfall is that it gets all in your underwear or you need to put a towel underneath you in the bed to keep it from getting on the sheets.

I tried Coconut oil a couple times but haven't given it a really good test. I know that Coconut oil does work good on my cracked feet though. I used it on some bad cracks for about a week and it really helped them start to heal and made my skin softer.

I hope you are able to overcome your problem and I know all about lost dignity cause I am in the same boat. Even telling my wife about my problems is a bit embarrassing. I can't even try to explain it to my family members but they all know I haven't been feeling well.

I was just looking for information about Entocort enemas and came across this post. I may be too late to help loulou82, but just in case she or others can benefit ... What I discovered with the Entocort enema is that you have to remove the clear plastic/rubber seal on the inside of the nozzle and then the liquid flows out really easily. It's a ridiculous, useless thing they put in there...basically makes of the enema an eyedropper.

So screw off the nozzle, look in the inside and pick out the plastic/rubber seal - you might need something pointy to help you.

And that should do it!
