Usually you can certainly see the white of the enema in my experience

Sometimes I can't see it either, like the last few days ... I think it does depend on various factors as to how much it blends with stool / absorbs etc but don't worry if you can see it or not

Wolsnik, this is surprising......every bit got absorbed? no white skunk stripe on the poop? I wonder if I am having a problem absorbing because I am passing a lot of the white stuff w/ my two BM/s (about an hour apart). Hopefully it doesn't mean the inflammation became too tough to absorb it.....

I only have a 3 left and my follow up isn't for another 6 days. Luckily I am still taking the pentasa (oral mesalamine). I am going to ask for an ongoing enema RX to use as maintenance.

My bowel movement was a little lighter brown(but nothing that would make me think it was odd) but definitely no white anywhere. I usually don't go until around lunch or shortly after so it was in my rear for at least 15 hours so that might make a difference as well. As wings said I wouldn't worry about it. It probably doesn't signify anything as far as the effectiveness of the med.

Last night and this morning were uneventful again. I seem to be tolerating it pretty well.

EDIT: we posted simultaneously, Wolsnik, lol.....ok, mine is only in a holding pattern until about 6 or 7am. That may be why (or maybe the reason I mentioned below). I'm not worried.

That's good to know, iPoop......maybe mine are ok then. My symptoms have improved, so I guess that's the primary thing. Maybe because I am using a generic the suspension filler is different? I have a bunch of white exit, with the first movement especially.

Not sure if it would make a difference but body size may come into play as well? I'm a 6'3" 215 pound male so maybe just more body to absorb med(assuming you all might be smaller)? Again, at any rate, I don't think the differences we are seeing amount to the effectiveness of it. Pain is a little less today so far so hopefully that's a sign its already doing its thing. smile

It's absorbed into the stool. The med is topical....the water part will be somewhat absorbed into the colon.
Whatever sits in the rectum will come out first...no stool sitting there.
This is the least of anyone's worry.....really.
Just use them and they are what they are.

In risk of beating this horse to death, I just wanted to let everyone know I did have some tannish streaks on my poo a bit ago. So there. All is well. lol

UPDATE AND QUESTION:

I've been using the mesalamine enemas for consistent 10 days now and I went from symptom remission of 1 BM per day, formed, no blood pre-enema to 2-3 BM's per day, no blood, more gas and not as formed due to the liquid from the enema. This has happened before with enemas. First BM is not as formed and then others are fully formed. I have more urgency too in the mornings, which I did not have before.

When I look at this the enemas seem to be making me worse, but i have rectal inflammation still according to biopsy results. I have not seen any blood though in a few months. Would you continue the enemas if they are causing 1-2 more bowel movements per day, more urgency in AM and more gas? To me this seems like worsening and objectively getting worse so it's confusing to me to continue.

You still have inflammation. You can try lower dosage enemas, but still same liquid. You can see if it's the mesalamine tolerance.

Or...use steroid enemas and maybe support with canasa.

Can you get the sulfate-free rowasa; sfRowasa? I'm wondering if the sullfate preserve is causing you troubles?

Thanks Ipoop and quincy, I have stopped the mesalamine enemas for now and am starting canasa + keeping everything else the same. I am not able to get SF rowasa at my pharmacy, but will do some research. I just have to kick the leftover mild rectal inflammation. I think it is very mild since it was not visible at all when he did the colonoscopy and told me I had no visible inflammation anywhere. I celebrated too soon!
