@eekseel - finally! someone who isn't trying to question my disease!?... this is the exact approach I took I had enough of using non natural pharmaceutical drugs as we all know they damage our eco system and aren't healthy on the long run!... yes that is great! thickening of stool means its working i guess and if you had blood before and now onnly see mucus its a sign of healing.. please carry on for atleast 2 weeks! I am by no means a doctor despite my username haha but I can only tell you that this home made enema has really changed my life! I can now also go on heavy drinking nights with no problem although I keep my home made enema ready by my bed which I administer in bed drunk haha. You say there are tons that help, I am confident you will find something that will help you stay in remission as I was once in a dark place and felt there was nothing that would help! stay strong.
@nourse - in regards to feeling your disease I know exactly how you feel, luckily enough I have only had 1 course of prednisolone in the 6 years I have lived with this disease which was at diagnosis and have never wanted or had to use it. When I was on it, once I had tapered from 50mg to 10mg bleeding returned so I figured that prednisolone was not the answer. My ethos is if its not getting me into rremission its not the right treatment! take that as you want but its just my thoughts in regards to treatment
To reiterate the enema I do is as follows;
Grounded (powder) organic Clove
Black Walnut Hull powder
Wormwood capsules (empty wormwood powder)
Bottled spring water
I obviously don't have a measurement I do this by eye.
Once I have made the mixture and mixed it well I use a syringe to squirt it into a enema bulb and the rest is history!
Mind you, sometimes you will feel almost a burning sensation (not painful) as the clove is working its magic.
Just to say it again, I am by no means a doctor but this is what has gotten me into remission and has enabled me to drink again! which I hated being 24 and not having drunk all the way throughout University due to UC (However I have now caught up on this with loads of nights out in London haha)
Best health to all!
Thank you so much. Can you give ball park ideas of how much clove...for example teaspoon versus a tablespoon...not relevant but how did you find this enema? Healing gets found in the strangest places sometimes.
I am glad you are much better. My opinion on steroids is its bad for sure, I think all would agree with that. I believe its supposed to be taken when there is chronic bloody diarrhea (or a flareup) and the steroids are the only way out. In other words, there were times when if I had not taken I am positive I would be dead because my body could no longer process any food. Having said that, it sounds like you have not had super bad flares, but are having flares...perhaps beginning stages and you have found a way to get past them which is awesome. I do believe this last round of prednisone I got on perhaps I should not have started...as was not severely sick...and then I always want to say idiotic things like its a crapshoot.
I don't drink (am a recovering alcoholic lol) however the thing I miss is not eating what I want. I try to treat my ulcerative colitis through diet, specifically the Gaps diet which is super high maintenance and a bit tricky to follow correctly. However when I did that for a couple of years I had the best results in a colonoscopy than I've had in decades so I am trying to do it again. I think others don't mess with their diet as I do and sometimes I wonder how much its helping...especially while taking prednisone....I see so many others eating what they want - bottom line many of us taking hard core medications...some doing dietary stuff, some not. If I could have surgery and not walk around with a bag I would do it in a second, to have more freedom not just from this disease, but also with food...be able to go out to eat, be able to travel. Anyway, I'm going into a rant. Glad I just happened to rediscover this forum yesterday, and your post...will try an enema tomorrow. Thank you and be well!
