Insufficient colonoscopy prep

Just needing to have a little vent. Was told my colonoscopy prep was insufficient (after they sedated me and looked inside) so wasn't able to have procedure and have come home to have the prep working now rather than last night! Very annoyed and frustrated that I'm now left with a sore bottom, aggravated rectum (where my inflammation always is) and no helpful diagnostic results. Arrrgh. I'm thinking I should wait a while before doing a prep and procedure again as I think it may be very aggravating for rectum which is probably already inflamed. I'm not sure why I'm having such slow transit either. This is the second time it's been like this but last time they were at least able to do the colonoscopy. This time I'm a bit confused because my stool was watery with no solid pieces but when they initially looked it was still filled with stool. (I've had at least 10 colonoscopies in last 15 years, but slow transit is new issue...Maybe more constipation than I realized... )it wasn't a doctor I knew doing procedure so there's really nothing helpful to come out of it. Looking for silver lining I guess. Has anyone had experience similar to this? Or advice?

Which prep did you do? I have done Suprep for both my colonoscopies and found it to act very swiftly. (Also, I take it 1-2 hours earlier than indicated because I tend to still be going when I get to the hospital).

But I did the Miralax/Gatorade prep for my capsule endoscopy and holy cow it took forever to start working. Was so uncomfortable for the longest time with no BM. If I had been prepping for a colonoscopy, I think it would have been insufficient.

Yep. My last three scopes I have had issues with not being cleaned out well enough. They were not able to complete the scope three times ago. I was absolutely devastated. I waited at least a month before the next attempt. Maybe longer. I can't recall now. Anyway, I had problems that time too and was all worked up into a state that I would be sent home again. That time my doctor said it was fine. Okay, then last year the same thing happened. I wasn't running clear by the time I had to leave to get to my scope but since last time it seemed to work out, I went ahead and hoped for the best. I was all worked up into a state again and practically in tears by the time my GI saw me. That time I really wasn't cleaned out well enough, but maybe because of the state I was in, my GI took pity on me. She and the nurse went to a lot of effort to complete the scope. They physically turned and twisted my body into different positions so that they could look at everything and get the scope through it all. (I am awake but sedated during my scopes so that's how I know what all went on).

Each time I have done more and more, and started the whole clean-out procedure earlier (eg. started the liquid diet earlier) and still it doesn't work. I have used different preps. I don't know why my system has such problems. Next time I see my GI I am going to discuss with her in great detail what more I can possibly do.

Nothing worse then having to redue a miserable prep, sorry. You can always go clear liquids earlier than they reconmend if you can stand extra fasting...
