Mesalamine DR is a generic but not the right kind of generic...

I'm a happy vermonter now but not so happy with my new blue cross blue shield policy here with expressscripts as the medication portion. I tried to fill my Mesalamine DR, a generic, and it rang up at the pharmacy with a $430-something copay (40 percent of list price). It's a generic but the "wrong kind of generic" my insurer insisted. So, they charged me the non-formulary, brand-named copay and that is not a mistake. They said mesalamine dr is the exclusive, licensed generic made with the blessing of asacol hd. Oh god ain't that a crock of craps. Used a lialda savings card and walked out with a bottle of it instead.

Not sure if anybody else has run into that one yet. Figured I'd report it here, for reference to others. Oh the joys of new policies...

"Licensed generic"??!? Good grief! That's awful!
I sure hope your Lialda cost a lot less than that! Such trickery these companies get away with!😡

Sorry to hear about a new trick being played with generics.
Hope you can get better answers on why no one else is making this generic at generic price.

Bright side is Vermont legalized pot (not just medical) starting very soon. Maybe you can research it for us.

I just read an article on AARP about drug pricing and the games pharmaceutical companies play. There's actually a whole series on their site. This is one of their tactics, so generics aren't a cheaper version. Its a shame that not only do we have to suffer physically with our disease but also put ourselves in the poorhouse to pay for our meds.

Oh wow, I am happy to hear you made the move. Fantastic for you. Sorry about the prescription drama. Sometimes I just want to say "have surgery and get it over with" haha. No more drugs here. Of course I kid, surgery is extreme.

Thanks Kara. Ended up getting another Tech Writer gig. No bites on the Graphic Design Portfolio I shared with you. Fortunately, I am now working for a very small company with no marketing staff, and I bet it won't be very hard at all to volunteer into some of it. I've worked at small companies before, and everyone wears many different hats and shares many different responsibilities, and if you have a skill in something then they take advantage of it. And this companies website is so 1992 (much like healingwell's site is lol)! They definitely need some assistance by a designer!
