white stuff in stools

You likely saw mucus and it's our least concerning symptom. A healthy intestine has a thin lining of mucus. With IBS/IBD our intestine is irritated and we over produce and shed mucus from the walls. And as a result we can see it passed in bms. It is white/off white in color and can be stringy or clumpy.

Hi, I am actually interested in your replies here. I have been seeing 'mucus' on my stools now for almost 18 months. And this is true even though I used both oral/rectal mesalamine and now steroid enemas......I am not certain there is a way to stop this?

I am seeing a brand new GI here later this month, so hopefully I can get a better understanding of it.

My diagnosis is chronic colitis and not UC (yet) but I have also wondered about a yeast infection and plan to ask for a stool sample, which I have never er been asked for. Do you have a diagnosis and have you been stool tested for various fungal, viral or bacterial causes?

Yes, in my case I have absolutely no symptoms of IBS though (no diarrhea or pain). In fact mucus is the ONLY symptom I have unless I go without meds. If I go completely without meds, blood returns. But there isn't any pain other than a burning sensation in my rectal area.

Sounds like we are ok seeing the mucus, OP......especially if ipoop sees it in remission. It still upsets me though.
