Ulcerative colitis help

Im new here. Had uc symptoms for 2 years and finally went to dr. Got diagnosed 6 months ago. Tried a few different medicines and nothing worked. Finally got out on Lialda and it worked for 3 months. Out of nowhere I had a horrible flare that put me in hospital for 4 days. Been in the flare for month and a half. I've went from 256 lbs to 213lbs in that time. Horrible bm every morning that causes me to throw up while going. Blood has stopped and its still coffee grounds. I'm on 40mg prednisone and they are going to start me on remicade hopefully soon. Been eating by the book and my work keeps me active 10 hours a day. I'm just so tired of the pain and throwing up every morning while im having a bm. The prednisone is making me produce alot of saliva while I go to the bathroom as well. I guess this is more of a get stuff off my chest post.

I havent been able to gain or loose weight for 5 years so its been rough to get down to 213. Been scary as hell. This has been rough. My work is now telling me that they may have to find a replacement for me due to me using bathroom 20 plus times a day at work. They say its called stealing company time. If i loose my job my family is done. That 2500 a month we will be without. This uc has been a nightmare.

I'm a newbie but I would never suggest to try stopping a prescription medication for a day without talking to your gastroenterologist first. I will look forward to seeing how more older timers than myself respond to you.

Re the job thing I'd call your gastroenterologist, ask him if any way he can speed up the Remicade process, ask if any way to get prescription enemas, they have helped me significantly. Curious how long you've been on prednisone and what dose did you start at. For me that usually will eliminate seve.re symptoms but not always.
Also curious what diet your are following. I know different diets work for everyone, however I would be following a diet that is anti-inflammatory. For me in the past thats made a huge difference.

As far as the threat of getting fired, that sucks. There is a thing called Americans with Disabilities Act. Your employer must make "reasonable accommodation" for you to do your job if you have a disability (here I don't know if the disability has to be declared federally (SSDI) or not).

If you can find time during your 10 hour day, try calling a disability attorney and ask some questions about this. Thats a horrible threat to have hanging over your head with all your already going through.

Prednisone should be used as a bridge while you weight for remicade to work. Prednisone stops the worst of our symptoms fast.

You should be able to get short term disability while flaring with UC. The Family and Medical Leave Act and American's with Disability Act should both apply.

So who here is on remicade and has had it work. How long did you take it till everything was back to normal as far as bathroom trips and normal bowel movements.

Just want to encourage you further to get live information on the disability part whether through Human Resources and/or disability attorney (not to get you all involved there, just to get answers)...as has already been discussed. I know the American Disabilities Act requires the employer make "reasonable accommodation"...to ME reasonable accommodation would be letting you go to the flipping bathroom 15 plus times a day. Its not like your sitting there reading a magazine. Maybe they are trying to twist reasonable accommodation into offering you a different job...don't know but hope you can find out. It is true you probably qualify for short - term disability (can be anywhere from 3 months to one year is max) as long as you've paid in your taxes last year to two years. I went on short term disability for my lower back a year and half ago for one year. I received 40% of the income I had been getting at a very specific time frame before declaring disability which fortunately was enough for me to get by on.

I hesitate to discuss food....its so varied, I'm not a nutritionist, etc...but just my opinion...I'm not trusting your greek yogurt. Dairy is known as an irritant. I think some believe store bought yogurt has enough probiotics...I don't. But I did, and am trying now, the GAPS diet in which the only dairy allowed is yogurt one ferments themselves for 24 hours. I'm in a light flare now and I won't eat my own yogurt as I feel its an irritant still. When I'm solid I'll give it another go. I'm also staying away from egg whites....sometimes when really irritated stay away from eggs altogether. However its confusing to me as prednisone should be masking all this...must be a doozy of a flare. And the other foods you suggested sound very good.
