Colorectal surgeons in Central Texas

I had a colonoscopy yesterday and it's not looking good. My GI doctor suggested I make an appointment with a colorectal surgeon and the main one in the Austin, TX area is Dr. Thiru Lakshman with Central Texas Colon and Rectal Surgeons.

Anyone have any experience with him? Or recommendations for other doctors in Texas? I'm willing to travel to other nearby cities if necessary such as San Antonio, Dallas, or Houston.

I do not live in that area, but i'd recommend checking out j-pouch.org and asking there. There are a lot more jpouchers there compared to here. I've also heard that there are some groups on facebook for jpouchers. I do not participate so i don't know the names.

What kind of surgery are you interested in getting? Just a colectomy with a permanent ileostomy? Any CR surgeon can do a good job with that; it's not a difficult procedure.

If you want a j-pouch then you'll want to find a surgeon with lots of experience constructing j-pouches; it is a very complicated procedure.

You'll usually find the better surgeons at the major university/teaching centers.
