So, unfortunately I have come down with something and am getting tested for strep throat. I am terrified to take antibiotics and possibly trigger issues with my UC - any thoughts on safer antibiotics for us?
Thanks in advance!

You should take whatever abx's the doctor thinks will be most effective against your infection. Follow up the treatment with probiotics and yogurt to repopulate your internal flora.
They may not trigger your UC at all. I've taken amoxicillin several times for dental infections without any noticeable effect on my UC. The important thing is to treat the infection effectively.

I use zithromax, clavulin, amoxicillin, septra without problems......always double probiotics tho.

Thanks all - good to hear. I have not had to take antibiotics since I was diagnosed 4.5 years ago so it's been a nice run! This makes me feel a lot better and I'll DEFINITELY bump up my probiotic game.

If you gotta take antibiotics then do. Sometimes we have to. They don't necessarily cause flares. Just take a good probiotic while on the antibiotics.

I took Cipro not that long ago and was fine. Doubled up on antibiotics and yogurt after I was done with it.

I'm going to second everyone else. Antibiotics don't always mean flare. I was on cipro, amoxicillin and levaquin within a 3 month period and never flared.
Hope you feel better. Strep is awful.

I've heard from a periodontist that clindamycin is the one that could cause gut problems. I am currently on Amoxicillin and noticing a small difference but nothing really bad.
