Hello all, let me start off with an introduction of who I am.
I just turned 30 years old, working out in the gym for 8 years, compete in bodybuilding shows for the past 2. I'm no stranger to eating healthy as this is how I pretty much have been eating. My diet consists of -
Carb sources - white rice, oatmeal, cream of rice, white and whole wheat bread, a variety of fruit ( bananas, apples, berries, mangos, pineapples, grapes etc etc ), cereal, rice cakes
Protein sources - chicken breast, ground turkey, fish, protein powders, eggs and egg whites, red meat very rarely, beans, cheeses, greek yogurt
Fat sources- peanut butter, almond butter, fats from meat, avocados, cooking oil etc etc
Vegetables- Spinach, broccoli, asparagus, a vast variety.
I have been eating clean and healthy and even keep track of all my foods to the gram daily as this helps me when dieting down for a competition. I have a cheat meal once a week, nothing to crazy just regular food that you crave when dieting. I am a very healthy person and I workout 6/7 days a week. 1.5-2 hours of weights and 20-60 mins of cardio all depending on where I am in my contest prep.
Supplements I have been taking BEFORE i got diagnosed was a multivitamin, fish oil, glucosomine, protein powders, pre workouts, fat burners. I used to smoke 8 years ago before I got into weightlifting and haven't touched it since. I drink maybe once a year on my birthdays, sometimes none at all.
It all started about
2 weeks ago. I woke up and use the bathroom as I normally would have. But this time it was different, it felt like it was hard to pass my stool and little bits came out. This continued for about
5 days. At this time I thought I got the stomach flu or food poisoning. I keep a log of everything I eat and the only thing out of the ordinary was a piece of chicken I cooked 2 days ago that I left in the fridge. So I just tried to wait it out. A week passed and now whenever I pass gas I have to do it on the toliet because it would come out with diarhea. Around this time everytime I ate
I would feel full in the middle of my stomach near my chest and I would burp constantly. There would be no blood in the toliet except the one or two times I strain because I felt like I wasn't emptying. I do have hemmorhoids so I assume the blood was from that. It was just bright red on the toliet paper, nothing crazy nothing to make the water red. My urges to go were increasing. I took some immodium thinking I just have a bug and went to my PCP. I told her my symptoms she gave me a prescript
ion for Pepcid AC and dismissed me as having GERD. My symptoms weren't going away the next 2 days so I went to an urgent care. The doctor there said I might have caught a bug and prescribed me Cipro for 3 days and more pepcid ac. I took the antibiotics and kind of felt better but the diarhea was still there. Sometimes it would be loose stools and I would see white spots embedded in it. My poop colors would also come out black but I knew I had taken pepto bismol and ate blueberries so it's because of that. After I finished the antibiotics, I felt really full so I took a very strong laxative (magnesium citrate) thinking that I could just be constipated as some of the effects were similar when i looked it up online. After a night of emptying my bowels, my stomach was in alot of pain the following night. I felt bloated, distended and decided to go to the E.R. While I was there I went to the bathroom around 6 times and it was all diarhea. The color was green. They did a CT scan and said I had colitis. The doctor prescribed me 2 weeks of Cipro and Flagyl. Luckily I had an appointment set up with a G.I. the very same day I got discharged from the hospital. Two days and a very unpleasant bowel preparation later I had a colonoscopy. When I awoke the doctor said I had ulcerative colitis on the left side of my colon. On the report it says -
Impressions - Ulcerative (chronic) pancolitis without complications.
He prescribed me Lialda 4 caps a day and Predisone starting at 6 pills a week then tapering down to 5/4/3/2/1
I have a followup in 2 weeks with him to get the pathology results.
He told me to still finish the antibiotics(cipro and flagyl) that they gave me in the hospital. I took my first dose of Lialda and Predisone today and had a very bland diet of white rice, cod, white toast, and eggs.
I only went 3 times so far today. Once after I woke up from the colonoscopy to pass gas. One at night to pass gas/mucus and another with a little diarhea and blood.
What do you guys think? Does this sound like ulcerative colitis or can it be a colitis from bacterial infection and my colon is just inflamed.
