Rough Colonoscopy Yesterday - Feeling Sick Today

Yesterday I went for my colonoscopy (I had one a year ago when I got diagnosed). I had some issues with my heart rate going crazy before the scope even started. They were monitoring me and eventually did an EKG and decided it was safe to proceed. Last time the meds totally knocked me out but this time I was kind of awake and feeling some pain. I vaguely remember moaning and saying "I can feel everything".

Woke up feeling ok - not as drugged up as last time. Came home and noticed I had the chills. Forced myself to eat a little something but had no appetite. I took a nap under a big blanket and woke up sweating. Took my temp and it was 100. The nurse told me if it was 101 or higher to call them. I called anyway. They asked me if I had any abdominal pain, excessive bleeding. I didnt so they said to call if my temp got to 101 and go to the ER.

Had a terrible sleep last night. Just hot and feeling kind of feverish/generally unwell. And now its the next morning and I'm feeling pretty much the same. My temp keeps fluctuating between normal and 99-100 (this might be because my thermometer is a crappy digital Walgreens one). I don't feel horrible but I feel really weird. I did have a cold for a few days before the scope - could it be that? Should I be worried? I imagine if I had any big problem from the procedure like a perforation, I'd be in a lot of pain.

Had no problems like this after my last scope...

Hi.. you were fighting something before you had your scope and you still are. Can you go to your GP and have wbc test done? You might have sinus or ear infection.

Do you have any discomfort in your gut?

I agree with others in your other post that dehydration could cause increased heart rate and chills. I get chills during the prep (gallon).

I would also suggest you mention to your GP about your heart rate and maybe she will refer you to a specialist for stress testing.

My heart rate goes up as does my bp. I'm now on bp meds.

I vote cold/flu.

Perforations involve bad infections which mean high temp fevers. You don't have one so don't worry.

Scopes are invasive and make us feel awful for a day or two afterwards. Add a cold/flu to it and it's even worse.

Thank you both. After a mini anxiety attack and almost going to the ER, I chilled out, talked to my doc, ate some food and am feeling a bit better. I think the prep just destroyed me this time.

Bad news was my scope showed severe inflammation in the rectum - the pictures looked like a bloody horror show. Went from 15cm to 18cm and now I have to start the dreaded Prednisone that I've been avoiding at all costs. If that doesn't work, Biologics.

It's only been a year since diagnosis and I was in remission for most of that year, but this seems to have gotten substantially worse pretty fast.

Not to freak you out but that can happen in terms of how fast the disease is progressing. I went from diagnosis in January 2015 to having my colon removed in September 2016.

hang in there and I hope things improve.
