I have a message into my doctor, but curious re: others' experience. I'm at the end at 5 mg taper off prednisone after 11 months. Are you warned against having the flu vaccine after prolonged use, or even with a small current dosage?

No worries, you can get your flu shot while using prednisone. I have.

Just make sure it is the dead-vaccine (the arm-shot). Live-flu-vaccines are rare but sometimes used via inhaler, although generally only for children.

I've had the flu jab every year since I started Azathioprine. As Ipoop said, keep an eye out for live vaccines.

I personally wouldn't but I had a bad experience with a flu shot. I don't think i'd ever get one again.

Alright owleyes, you've made your point that you believe vaccines to be bad, let's not take over someone else's thread by posting repeatedly about the same exact point....I cleaned up this thread accordingly.

You can get preservative-free (thimerosol-free) flu shots if you have fears about that. Thimerosol is only in the multi-dose vials.

I am on 30mg prednisone and have been on 20mg-40mg since March 2017 and will be getting my flu shot on Friday.

The only concern with the being on prednisone (or any immunosuppressant) and getting the flu shot (or any vaccine) is that you may not have as good of a response to the vaccine due to being immunocompromised. However, that reduced effectiveness is very minor. It is still WAY better than not getting vaccinated at all.

I have questions for you guys who are more knowledgeable than me. Don't get me wrong here but statements like this amaze me the most. Are you really sure about this? Can you sign that flu vaccine won't alter someones condition? The National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program presence tell us that we are not 100% safe after having a flu shot/vaccine. If flu shots are 100% safe this program wouldn't exist. Please make sure you check all facts before taking any vaccine/medication/supplement. It is so important to understand that we have to be our own advocates in the first place.

You can still even get the flu from a flu shot since it injects the flu into your body for the immune system to learn how to defeat it.

It is scientifically impossible to get the flu from an non-live flu vaccine. Some flu vaccines literally do not even contain the flu virus (recombinant vaccines).

There is no live flu vaccine available this year in the U.S., as the FluMist has been found to not be very effective the last couple years.

There's very, very small odds that if I walk outside that i'll be struck and killed instantly by a meteorite. I believe none of us fear this unlikely event, nor cast the slightest worried eye toward the sky before stepping outside. Yet, mention a vaccine and the tables are suddenly turned lol: the highly improbable becomes a predominant reason NOT to take them *facepalm*.

I've never ever had a problem with the flu shot. I think if you've ever had the true flu, you'd do anything to avoid it.

That being said, I got my shot yesterday and felt so fatigued today. I slept 13 hours last night. I think it has something to do with the fact I had major surgery a few weeks ago. Still completely worth it!
