Abdominal tenderness

New diagnosis. Been on Uceris and generic Lialda for 3 weeks for mild colitis. Was having amazing results until late last week when I seemed to get major indigestion after a certain meal and test driving drinking a couple of beers. Bleeding is still gone and bm’s are not frequent and mostly solid.... but my lower abdomen, just above my pubic bone, is becoming increasingly tender and bothering me for most of the day. Would this be a sign of mesalamine intolerance even though the other symptoms are still improving?

Not a sign of an intolerance at all.

Their is a lot of trial-and-error in the initial treatment of a UC patient, and you're only 3 weeks in. Your doctor might have to add in additional medications, like a nightly Rowasa enema to fully treat all of your symptoms. Lialda may not be enough on it's own. Ask for a prescription for Rowasa.

If you suspect alcohol bothers your UC symptoms then it might be best to avoid it at least until you are confirmed in a remission and then retry. What we can handle in a remission is often quite different than what we can handle in a flare up.

Also seems odd that I would have so much progress with the other symptoms but a worsening of pain. I had an endometrial ablation performed back in May and sometimes I wonder if the pain is related to that as many women go on to have painful complications from ablation. Frustrated.

UC is anything but instant-gratification. If often takes many months to recover from a flare, and sometimes longer. Patience!

We all get very frustrated at our UC. As UC can be a real witch with a capital B at times.

I'd highly suggest not stopping lialda especially if it's working for you. I started on lialda and eventually had to move up the med ladder. Uc can spread and increase in severity during the early years.

Lialda is a very mild med. like aspirin for your colon. At least stay on the maintenance dose of 2 pills.

Bentyl isn't a band aid. It's just a pill you take when you have cramps. Like Tylenol for a headache. It's not a maintenance medication.

Yes as you heal abdominal tenderness and cramps are par for the course. They can also mean you still have inflammation. You'll need to understand how the disease affects your body. How your body handles meds. Unfortunately uc isn't straight forward in any sense of the meaning. It affects us all differently.

I know it's hard in the beginning. I've had it 5 years and I still have complete mental breakdowns. My only advice is to take care of yourself as best you can and that starts with keeping the inflammation gone.

I know. It totally sucks when one thing stops and something else pops up. It's most likely a sign of healing. Things feel different as you heal.

Talk with your gi too. And the gyn that did the ablation. Maybe there's something to it down in that area.

If the lialda is working I personally would stay on it. It's best to have all inflammation gone and you don't want to go backwards.

Try the bentyl. It could help the pain and as you get fully back on your feet you won't need it. You will need to wait this period out just like you did the other symptoms. You're doing great and got it under control fast. It sounds like you're almost there!!
