Help me! Besides UC, I had periodontitis and tonsillitis. I did bone graft surgery for periodontitis and now I'm relatively relieved from this, however my tonsillitis hasn't been improved despite my taking of my ENT's meds. I also take inhaled steroid from my pulmonologist (diagnosed asthma allergy).

Is chronic inflammation in other parts in the body besides the colon common among UCers? What drugs should I take to find relief? Is it something like prednisone? Can steroid relieve inflammation in every part of the body?

(I had corticosteroid injection when I was in allergy due to antihistamine)

Periodontitis and tonsilitis are bacteria driven, but it can definitely kick in an autoimmune response. Some of the bacteria from mouth infections can cause systemic infections or kick in those autoimmune responses wherever....especially if infections are continual.

You might consider having your tonsils removed.

It's not caused from UC, but for some it's more difficult to fight off infection if flaring.

Have you had vitamin D and b12 checked? Other blood tests as well considering how much you are dealing with?

Not yet for vitamin D, but I did B12 test and it was normal. Thanks again for your swift response. I heard the tonsil can grow back after surgery but not as thick as before? Any members here who did the tonsil removal?

I checked my iron too, it was borderline low (still in the normal range - around a point above low) and my ferritin was high, I read that inflammation can make ferritin level high and causing anemia of chronic illness? But my CBC was normal.

Not usual for it to happen. I know so many with tonsils removed and no growth back. Constant infection will affect you in many ways....none of which are good. Including asthma.

So, you are saying your iron is high and you have anemia?
You would need a break down on white and red blood counts, etc.

Is your liver enzyme panel OK?

Do you have copies of your blood tests?

what I meant was my iron was still normal, but in the very lowest normal range, my ferritin was high, my CBC (complete blood count) was normal, so my doc said I had no anemia (after I told him what I read about anemia of chronic illness). I'm not holding my test papers now.

My liver enzyme was normal. I had benign liver calcification post inflammation (from a CT scan - full abdomen) but my GI doc said it was not dangerous. The same he said for my slighlty elevated gallbladder enzyme, it was okay, he said, because my overall liver enzyme was normal.

Since childhood I had allergy.

Yes, we can get inflammation anywhere in the body. Joint pains are from inflammation. We can get uveitis (eye pains) from inflammation. Many others. Lucky us.

I'm sorry to hear that. If I may, could you tell me your inflammation other than the colon so far, or currently? What kind of meds do you take to get relief that targets every inflammation? Is it steroid? I suspected my left knee is also suffering from arthritis (autoimmune too, right?)

Some of my docs said colitis was autoimmune and some others said it could be, but not always. What do you think about this?

I've had a rash, a contact-dermatitis that was an allergic reaction (that is the immune system attacking the skin) due to harsh Irish spring body soap and shampoo I was using. It looked a lot like eczema, red, raised patches under my armpits, on my shoulder, neck and scalp. I put on a prescription, topical steroid cream and changed to mild shampoos and soaps without perfumes (got some dove-brand stuff that's safe for psoriasis and eczema). That took care of it. I reintroduced the Irish spring as a test a number of months back and the rash returned (and I reapplied the steroid and switched back to Dove lol).

I've read a number of encounters with Uveitis here, some RA and other joint pains, some have sjogren's syndrome, among others. I've always had issues with my teeth and that seems to be fairly common I've read here. We're just more prone to inflammation body-wide it seems.

I'm in the UC is autoimmune (or at least an autoimmune deficiency) camp. Not buying the whole infectious-MAP (johne's disease in cattle connection) that a lot of folks are talking about lately (great for crohn's disease but not UC). It's all opinion, as nobody knows for sure. Unknown presently. UC and secondary extra-intestinal manifestations do make me think autoimmune though!

All semantics though, cuz really the crux of it is that it sucks to have bumm problems plus inflammation elsewhere!
