This morning I had to arrive at outpatient surgery center at 6:30 am for cataract surgery which meant getting up 2 hours in advance to drive to the next town. Of course I overslept so even less time to get my gut sorted out which had to be done without any liquids including coffee, due to anesthesia requirements.
I discovered coffee is not totally necessary, well it is but not for my gut just my brain ha. 1 BM and on the road I went. While walking me into the surgery suite the nurse asked, "Would you like to use the bathroom" and I said no thanks. Surgery went well and back home I got to drink some coffee and yes the usual BM.
Even people without UC hate getting up extra early and doing without their coffee. For me it was truly a victory to not have to worry about
my UC while having a semi-stressful surgery.
PS Here's my secret for coffee-free BM: I used a Vit E suppository when I woke up. Easy.
