pregnant at 9 weeks with active ulcerative proctitis

hi, i am currently 9 weeks pregnant with active ulcerative proctitis (diagnosed in 2012). my dr is urging me to take the mesalamine enemas (they help)which are considered category B for pregnancy. although i dont want to take it i know i need to to treat my symptoms as i am extremely constipated . my question is there any advice on taking this (mesalamine enema)while pregnant and anyone who has is the past during pregnancy?

So many people here have used the enemas during pregnancy. I would consult with your OB or a high risk OB if you have questions, but they are topical and I can't see it causing any issues. Some people are on 6mp/imuran, remicade, prednisone, all while pregnant... Mesalamine enemas are really a very safe drug. The worst would be passing UC genetics, I'd be much more worried about that then using enemas personally.

The enemas are 90 percent topical and 10 percent systematic, mild anti-inflammatory medication. The 10 percent is absorbed into your bloodstream and cleared through the kidneys and urinated out. I'm sure a small amount is passed to the fetus but it's likely mostly harmless.

I used the enemas during my pregnancy. I totally understand being hesitant and worried about it, I was a total mess before I finally decided to use them. My daughter is completely healthy. It’s better to get the flare under control than to let it simmer and possibly get worse.
