Thank you God. Surgery set for Tuesday

Just got call that they got O.R room for Tuesday. Finally getting this nightmare body part out of me. Now I'm thinking Monday I have to drink the poison to empty me out so I need ideas on MY LAST SUPPER. What do I eat for my last good meal before surgery. Everything running thru me so doesn't matter what I eat-ribs(yummy),nice bowl of stew,fish????? Not sure Any ideas?? Getting hotel in Manhattan starting Sunday. Will relax in city Sunday(watch football) then drink the poison on Monday So my last good home Meal will be tomorrow Want to thank Valli,Songlady and everyone else for all the advice etc. Will update everyone on my adventures(if u want to call it that). My wife says I'm a pain in the ass,told her there taking the pain out during surgery)she doubts it). Isn't marriage a beautiful thing. Love u all. Be well

When you see your surgeon prior to surgery ask him for a room on East side of the 14th Floor; It has a great view of the East River. The west side only looks at the other hospital buildings. It really depends on how busy the 14th floor is.

If you want to wear something to cover your bottom (that the hospital gowns don't) then bring a pair of gym shorts and some sweatpants. The heating is messed up on that floor, it shares thermostats between 2 rooms, so if the other room likes it hotter than you'll suffer. I'm someone who prefers thermostats in the 60's than the high 70's.

The hospital has chapstick, toothbrushes, toothpaste, sleep masks for your eyes, ear plugs. Almost anything that you need, just ask the nurses or their aids.

You'll need to bring chargers for you phone, tablets, laptops, etc.

It's a great hospital. You'll be well cared for.

I love your little "final hurrah" plan. Sounds like fun, but of course, minus the prep, would be more fun. I did prepopik and it was a breeze, well compared to some of the others (like golytely *barf*). Miralax is usually pretty tolerable for most people... Of course, nothing is THAT easy because you're on an off the bowl constantly. I hope it's easy for you. Final suppers, hmm, in NYC, I don't know. So many amazing options. I guess something that will be easy to pass is always good, but then again, maybe something really rich and decadent could be good too, and a fantastic dessert. You will likely be able to start eating well pretty soon after the surgery without too much repercussion. Your wife sounds like a character. Keith, that sounds like a nice hospital, all those items + a view. Mine didn't have anything, well I guess maybe if you asked, but I didn't know to. I think I got a toothbrush once, but I brought my own for surgery because I was somewhat prepared. I remember eating chinese food in my hospital room after surgery. My bf walked over and got it for me. The food in my hospital was pretty terrible, but it's fine for a few days.

1905 I'm asking for the Penthouse-80 inch flatscreen[just kidding of course].I'll bring sweats and shorts and bunch of shirts.I like my room warm[70 at home] but ill take whatever it is as long as its not cold.Thanks for the info on the basics,ill prob bring my toothbrush etc etc just in case.Going to get an extended chord charger for my cell phone tomorrow[in case outlet isn't close to bed],probably will be making some business calls plus personnel calls so want to make sure phone stays charged.I want to thank you bc i went on your recommendation for Cornell.Im very happy with how professional they all are.Dr Shukla is doing my surgery,I'm very happy with him.Whats great is my appt with Stoma nurse is Monday at 2 so ill be in city already,hotel is on 62nd street so just a short walk.They gave me instructions for Dulcolax/Miralax which i don't start until 3 on Monday.So everything is working out. not sure if its 2 or 3 step-im taking 20 mg of pred so maybe 3???

The 14th floor is the penthouse, when I was there 4 years ago the TVs were flat screens but awful quality, maybe the TVs have changed since then.

14th floor shares the VIP wing with the colorectal wing. My GI told me that the rooms and everything is identical in the CR wing to the VIP wing. It’s really nice, might be better than your hotel (including the view).

A word of advice, I tried doing work (phone calls & emails), the pain meds made it a disaster. Avoid it if you can. Just worry about recovering.

My uncle is a boat aficionado, he would visit me as often as possible to watch the tug boats go up the east river (my cousins confirmed my suspicions).

Thanks serenity and 2014.If i only can rest after surgery then thats what ill do.Last few weeks at home have been tough staying strong so i haven't done much but rest,too tired from the BIG D.So I'm used to doing nothing but resting.Monday i go see Stoma nurse,will check all.Hotel is very close to hospital so i will tell son to keep his ass near his old dad. Thanks guys

And regarding your last good meal before the surgery go for the ribs . I ate 3 chocolate bars the night before I sent my son down to the hostipal gift shop to load up . Felt so good ... eat and enjoy this weekend
Because here I am 4 weeks after my surgery I still have no appetite and I am sick of chewing my food 100 times because I don’t want a blockage in my stoma ... so eat this weekend 😊

3timechamp are you getting your whole colon removed ? Are you looking at a J pouch afterwards ?

Congrats! I had my surgery in October. It was such a relief--free at last! I'm with the rest of them--don't do business while in the hospital b/c pain meds make you loopy without you realizing it. But by the time I was discharged (3rd day after surgery) I was just taking vicodin, and that doesn't make me loopy. I felt great the first few weeks b/c of pain meds and my nerves were dead, and I was still at 20mg+ of prednisone. Things got harder as I weaned off pain meds and prednisone, and the feeling came back in my abdomen (IMO healing pain was far more uncomfortable than post-op pain). But I was desperately ill prior to surgery and woke up feeling 200% better, so even my bad days post-op are better than my best pre-op. If you have any questions lemme know.

Valli-Surgeon mentioned leaving it til 2nd surgery. He mentioned sewing it to something. I've had good amount of bleeding over the years from rectum which rowasa and cortenemas took care of. Funny that I have not done any Rowasa or cortenemas in few months and no bleeding. Prob bc of Pred that I'm taking. I'm Hopeing that Being I'm not as sick as many are before surgery will that help me with recovery??? Only thing I'm going thru now is feeling somewhat weak from time to time prob from Big D. When I need to do few things I get up and do them all at once then rest.
