Here we go! Tomorrow is the big day. I've never had so many mixed emotions in my life. While I am super nervous of the surgery and what recovery will be like, I have a feeling of peace that all will be well. I am so looking to be able to participate in life again. The possibility of being able to go to my kids games, out to eat with my wife, actually make it through a day of work without crapping my pants, seems to good to be true. Not to mention having prednisone out of my life once and for all (it barely did anything for me, all the side effects, none of the relief).
Thanks to everyone for sharing their knowledge on this forum. It has been a terrific resource for me. I'm reading constantly (even if I rarely post anything).
Wish me luck, I'll update in a few days!

Not sure exactly what you’re having done but I had j pouch surgery 7 years ago and it’s been a HUGE blessing. I don’t take a single day for granted being UC free. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Take that UC!
So far things have gone great. Surgery went smooth and I'm feeling way better then I thought I would be. So far, this has been much better then the kidney surgery I had in November. Ive even gone on a couple good walks. Pain has been manageable with the pump. I've only had to use it every hour or so. They said my colon was super bad and the appendix was ready to burst. So glad I got it done before that happened!

Great news. Walk as much as you're able to as that's important following your surgery.

Going home tomorrow! I probably could have gone today but the ostomy nurses are off on Sunday and I Needed my final bag training. It has been rough as expected but no I feel stronger every day. I've been walking my face off every few hours. Thanks for the tips on that, I think it has made all the difference. The only hicupp I've had is that my blood sugar keeps spiking. We are guessing it's the steroids mixed with the stress of surgery. They have been giving me an occasional dose of insulin to bring it down. Hopefully that goes back to normal as I continue to taper.

Happy to hear you are feeling stronger everyday! I had my surgery 4 weeks ago and am pretty much back to normal now! You’ll be there in no time!! Was your surgery done labroscopically?

I'm home! I got released this afternoon. I probably could have come home a day earlier but had to wait for the ostomy nurse to give me a final training today. So good to be home. Pain has been manageable with minimal oxycodene and Tylenol. Walking has been the secret weapon. Thanks for the tips.
I had it Laproscopically. It will be the 3 sep if I decide to go for the j pouch. Right now, I'm not even thinking about
it. I'm just so happy to not feel so sick and I want to focus on healing. After that, we'll see. I'm taking a break from anxiety and major decisions.

I just had my second surgery on the 12th. I had my colon removed on June 18th of 2016. I too decided to take awhile before I went in again due to the previous months of anxiety, pain, and long stays in the hospital. I wanted to be able to enjoy myself again and holy crap was I able to. Living with an ostomy is weird and it takes a little to get used to but once you do and you accept the weirdness of it man does life get great again. I'm only 26 and was a single guy at the time so it took awhile yo not be insecure. In the mean time i was able to be active again, something that was impossible with UC and I was able to find a lovely girl who couldn't care less about
me pooping out my stomach haha...life goes on and it's what you make of it just have a positive outlook on it and it will be wonderful...now that I've had the second step im ready to poop normally again haha. The loop ileostomy is alot more difficult than than the end one that you get in the first. Sometimes I miss the old one but this is still better than dying on the toilet and not sleeping...i have to say going into it and even the first month after surgery I was really down but I didnt let it last. I went back to AA meetings (colon was removed on my 2 year anniversary what a lovely day June 18th is for me haha) and tried to get back to my normal routine and I was amazed at my outlook on life and how it became so positive after having such a hard time dealing with UC mentally...im so excited for the final takedown surgery but what a ride this has been. Not the most ideal thing to have happen but I am totally satisfied with my decision as it saved my life and wasn't as tough as i expected. I wish you all the luck and remember to think positive. What an amazing story to tell in the future...also check out Jake Diekman, he's a pitcher for the Texas Rangers who has had the J Pouch surgery and returned to pitching in the MLB last summer. So many inspirational stories are out there to help you realize that you're a badass for surviving this!

Thanks for posting thisisfun, you're an inspiration. I wish you the best of luck in your reversal. I was just like you. I didn't wait long between step 1 and 2, but I did hate my loop. I did well with my end ileo. You will love a jpouch if you've been able to live comfortably with the ileo. I was OK with both, but I do love not needing supplues.
RunJerRun, best of luck. Let me know if you have any questions.

I love success stories and am very happy for you. It's great having a good quality of life again, and once that uncontrollable UC-monster us out of you then it is suddenly clear what you'd been missing. I wish you continued success with your takedown!
