Collecting data. We can do that amongst us, to try and see what we can find, along with medical research and some new info. Here we know that indians know a lot of stuff about plants and the leader of the tribe isn't actually that bossy guy. It's the doctor/priest. Brazil and US and having some serious problems with patents, since a few meds were developed with native's knowledge. And if we can at least see where it starts, we can tell people to avoid what was common to everyone, at all costs. It's not really science. But HPV being blamed for cervical cancer follows the same loggic. No scientific proof, just statistics.

UC isn't like cancer, and stress doesn't cause it.

Science doesn't know it. My Dr. says it happens most likely because of stress. But nobody knows for sure. So you can't say stress doesn't cause, as not even specialists are not sure about that.

Mine came on after my partner left me. We were engaged. It was very traumatic and I was emotionally distraught for months. I did not have symptoms of UC beforehand.

I think stress can switch on genes in certain people.

Stress can certainly increase inflammatory responses.

The thing is, that life is stressful at times. People lose their; jobs, home, partner, money. Arguments happen, and battles arise.

Staying happy is something all humans try to achieve.
Stress is the fiber of life. It stimulates and aggravates.
By all means avoid and manage stress. But saying that it causes UC is like saying life causes UC.

Nothing out of the ordinary stress wise for me. My U.C. began right after starting antibiotics for a stubborn bout of bronchitis that wouldn't go away.

I was bullied in school for years and I was enduring and enduring it. The summer I finished school I developed colitis. Right when I was able to rest. I believe that my body was fighting the entire time but when I was able to let my guard down I got sick.

My doctor has told me there is no real answer as to why we flare up but in his experience he said it could be because of stress or a virus that you may have contracted . Certain foods may be triggers as well. You just have to get to know what you can tolerate . I had been healthy for almost 2 years since my flare... so I was eating normal food , pretty much everything but never anything too spicy. I did however eat a lot of almonds and high protein granola cluster type cereal prior to my currurent flare, both of which are probably not good for for me. So who knows... I also work in the health care field and could have gotten a virus as well.

This makes sense to me, 100%. I grieved intensely for 1-2 months, cried almost every day. This was when my partner left suddenly, due to infidelity. It was after I started to get over it that UC developed. It's like the crisis was over and my body collapsed. I also had a colonoscopy 2 weeks before my UC developed. I think there are connections to both these things.

You only want to hear people who agree with you.
You want to hear that UC is caused by stress, and that medicine is bad (causes leukemia!)

It could be a virus yeah. They took a long time to discover HCV and the relation between HPV and cancer (which is highly suspected, not proved). But stress/anxiety seem to play a role on this thing. I think I have this since I was much younger (I'm 31), but I never ran tests until I was 27. But by that time I was not really stressed. I was very positive and starting in a job a really wanted. So the test showed nothing, microscopically. In 2017 I was highly stressed/depressed/with a trauma, then ran the test again. Then it was there, and with small scars and 4 polyps on the rectum. I managed to control stress and even changed my shift. New test shows no scars and a beatiful bowel with only 1 polyp on the ileum. Pancolities, though. But I see that when I manage to control stress, nothing happens. I think it might also have some relation the independent neural system that intestines have.

Nope. What I don't wanna hear is people coming and giving final notices about what causes and what doesn't cause UC. Nobody knows about it, so it could be an unknown virus, stress, anxiety, depression, sugar... even the spirits could causing that. If science can't prove, then anything is likely and not likely at the same time. Besides doctors usually say that it's most likely due to stress. about Leukemia... well, if you read the articles, you know what I'm talking about. If you didn't, then read. I made the effort of finding it and posting it here.

It didn't say anything like that.

only a very small percentage of people get serious adverse events.

You spread fear and uncertainty as a way of pushing your own point of view.

I joined a local support group here in person but I didn't find it very helpful. I want answers not a hand to hold. Sorry if that's rude I don't mean it that way. I am very frustrated that modern medicine is on the wrong track with IBD. I don't think they really want to cure us, just make money. That's all I'm reminded of by the support groups. We just sit around talking about how hard it is and different ways we can try to cope but none of it is telling me how to stop my IBD or even make symptoms better.

I said you must chose between treating (and having a much bigger chance of developing leukemia) or not treating and having more chances of developing cancer. I thought it was clear. And they say there's a higher risk, but they can't say if it's gonna be a small percentage or not.

Nah that wasn't rude. I am also frustrated that medicine is advertised as something very very modern that can cure and help... but cure... well... most diseases can't be cured, just badly treated. And while you're being treated you have high chances of developing something else. I think a whatsapp group is better because you don't have to go anywhere, just take your phone. And there might quite a few people searching for answers everywhere (man someone said I'd have to cut my bowel off, I'd research like crazy). And many people together, searching for something better than the risky meds science is able to offer now, can get somewhere. Sure, there'll be people searching for psychological support and that's not bad at all. I think contact must be fast and easy so that the ones researching can try something.

Just because you don't understand science, or studies, doesn't mean they don't provide very useful information.

It's not likely that we'll find out. But if most were stressed/anxious, then we can an idea about how it starts. Just wanna know how it starts for most people.
