I just spent the morning in the ER for the worst pain I've had in a while, worse than the UC pain itself. I have thrombosed hemorrhoids and they are so painful that I can't even sit without a hemorrhoid cushion, and I haven't slept in days. My GP gave me lidocaine ointment to put on and told me to take sitz baths but neither is helping. The pain goes very deep and the lidocaine can't touch that.

In the ER they actually had to give me morphine for the pain, but they said that they won't do surgery on them because my lower bowel is already inflamed and it would be high risk. They said the hemorrhoids should go down on their own in several weeks. Weeks!!!

Can anyone help me out here with some secret hemorrhoid advice that I haven't already found from doctors or Google? I'm already doing sitz path, tried prep H, doing lidocaine cream. Nothing really helps. sad

I wish I had answers for you. You sound like me when I was dealing with 2 fissures at once. My GI was like "oh little tiny fissures, take Sitz baths..." Yeah right, they were incredibly painful. I would nearly be in tears on the toilet - well not nearly, literally in tears, but I hate to admit to that. Stool softeners if your stool is firm and pushing on it. The lidocaine is probably the most helpful - but sadly, I agree, it's not that helpful. Protectants like calmoseptine. The thing about protectants I notice, is that you have to apply before you go, not after, or do both. If you wait until after, you probably don't have any protectant left from the last time you applied. Some of them are soothing though. A handheld bidet might be of help rather than all the wiping. I hope you get some relief soon. Butthole issues are the worst.

Hot baths were helpful for me. It was literally the only time the pain (UC and hemies) actually went away. I can remember thanking God for that 10 or 15 minutes without pain.

I sat in hot baths with epsom salt. I wiped with Tuck's wipes after using the bathroom, and then covered in hydrocortisone & preparation H multiple times a day. I've been able to get them to stop hurting in about 4 days doing this.

The only thing that ever really helped me was to wrap a piece of ice in paper towel and apply it directly to the hemorrhoid until it was melted. Of course you need a towel or something under you.

The pain got so crazy that I was screaming all night at home. Went to the ER and it turns out it's not a hemorrhoid but a perianal abscess. Will prob get emergency surgery, which terrifies me. Has anyone had this problem before? I thought it was a CD thing not a UC thing.

I just got a CT scan so I will find out if it's complicated or not.

I am so sick of being sick. I don't even understand how this happened.

People with UC can get a perianal abscess, fissure etc. More common with crohnsbut happens with UC as well.

I am sorry you are going through this! I am glad you know what it is now and are going to get resolution. I hope the surgery goes well, and you heal quickly.

Does anyone know of the recovery is hard? Do I have to take antibiotics? I really don't want to. The doctor was talking about giving me clindamycin and I hear it's a big no no for UC.

That really stinks. Feel free to start another thread asking about abscess recovery. Perhaps someone will see it and have knowledge for you. I personally think I would do my best to avoid clindamycin if at all possible, but I am sure you will need to take something to clear any infection.
