Smelly Gas and Stools

Have you had a stool test for possible infectious-causes to your worsened symptoms? I ask as C Diff is known for it's exceptionally foul smell and it mirrors UC flare symptoms. Only a test can eliminate that possibility.

The putrid BMs are usually the first sign I'm going to flare. It starts even while I'm having solid stool. Once the smell starts I have 3 three weeks before the worst of it starts. The stools start gradually getting looser and then the bleeding starts. So the smell is a good warning to start taking action or at least make a plan because I will soon not be well enough to live my life.

I think the putrid smell is dysbiosis happening. For some reason good bacteria are getting killed off and the bad ones are flourishing.

I start doing probiotic enemas as soon as this starts happening. High potency, once a day. The day after doing an enema all this putrid gunk passes out of my bowel which I think is part probiotic material and part bad bacteria.

If the enema doesn't work then there may be a pathogen which means you need more the opposite, like an antimicrobial of some kind. There are so many to choose from I don't know how to advise sorry. The ones in my toolbelt are neem, grapefruit seed extract, chlorine dioxide, wild oil of oregano, and one other I'm forgetting.... sorry my cognitive function is not very good right now

I am tapering off prednisone. My GI doctor wants me to start sulfasalazine to replace lialda

it just takes a while for everything to get sorted in your gut - what you are experiencing is pretty common -

probiotics might help -

With probiotics, try to veer away from tablet forms. Get yourself something in a dropper bottle from the refrigerated section of your local health food store...They typically work wonders.
