Hello, UCers!
“Lab rats taking Eugenol (from Clove Bud Oil) increased their inner mucosal layer by 57% in 7 days!” After several years of untreatable ulcerative colitis I started taking Clove Bud powdered capsules from Whole Foods a week ago and am well on my way to a full recovery.
Also, 10 days before Easter I was put on 40mg of prednisone. I experienced 12 hours of less blood, then it came back for several days. Slapped on a nicotine patch, and the following day the blood was gone. Still a trace here or there, but nothing like it had been. Long story short, the nicotine helped me pull it together but adding Clove Bud Oil a week ago has led to a dramatic improvement.
My daily routine is currently: a whey protein shake (high in l-glutamine) with acacia fiber (the soluble fiber gel it creates is very soothing to your colon), butyrate, clove bud powdered capsules, a probiotic, and a banana to help push the pills down. I enjoy this as a first or second meal, on a fairly empty stomach. In the evening, I repeat this as a final meal ideally, again on a fairly empty stomach.
I’ve always enjoyed IHAVEUC and Healing Well but never joined your respective communities. I have a strong feeling that Clove Bud Oil (and possibly nicotine therapy) will put a lot of you into remission, or at the very least make life a lot more enjoyable.
Here are links to a few studies:
1)Butyrate is an important energy source for intestinal epithelial cells and plays a role in the maintenance of colonic homeostasis: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3271691/?report=classic
2)However only eugenol stimulated production of the inner mucus layer, a key mucosal barrier to microbes: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4365398/
3)Nicotine or agents that have similar effects on colonic mucosa may emerge as useful therapeutic agents for colitis: http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM199403243301202
To sum up: butyrate provides energy to Goblet cells which then use Eugenol from Clove Bud Oil to increase thickness of the inner mucosal layer...
Cheers!, Rich
