J Pouch question

For me, it wasn't so much 'urgency' in the traditional sense that was an issue, it was more that the capacity was low, so I would have to go fairly often, and yes, it's not that easy to wait longer periods because you do not have a huge capacity. The other big problem I faced was the inability to know whether it was stool or gas, so I would sometimes rush to the toilet just to release gas. Early on, I would hold the gas in because I was worried it could be more than I bargained for. Now it's been quite a while, and I am well adapted to life with a jpouch. I do not empty every time I am in the bathroom, I did in the beginning, I would literally go whenever I was in there. As time passes, you can wait longer, and you can fart, I can at least. I've heard of others who have trouble

Thanks. I try . You will be okay. I can't wait to hear from you when you're doing fantastic, and toilets are the last thing on your mind. It really opens a lot of doors to live without the limitations of drugs, medical expenses, doctors, accidents... You are down the the last couple weeks.

The capacity issues improve fairly quickly, and continue to do so for a long period, but it's never going to be like a colon because the stool isn't compacted in the same way. It's still quite easy to live with, and it frees you from the cycle of doctors and drugs. The worst is if you get up in the night, but tons of people get up to use the bathroom for one reason or another... The best way to manage output, is probably with diet. Some people use bowel slowing agents. I personally just deal with the additional trip if it comes to that. I'd rather eat what/when I want.
