Diarrhea after remicade infusion

So I just had my second infusion today, still not noticing any improvements. But to make that worse, my first bowel movement after my infusion was the most gross green/watery diarrhea. No clue what is going on and it’s really discouraging knowing this is happening. Please offer some advice.

I'd try not to worry after one bad BM, we all have bad days. Ditto NSSG, she's a smart-cookie and knows her stuff. Although remicade can work fast, internal-healing is a slow process, and you are just 2-weeks into a new treatment. I got my first, small, positive response about 3-weeks into remicade, a much bigger and positive response at week-7, I was off of prednisone after 2-months on remicade, and it was a slow and steady improvement over a series of months until I reached a remission. We all want to be better yesterday, but healing is a process that will take a while. Be patient. And expect random have bad days strewn about here-and-there to frustrate us. Just remember one bad bm does not make a trend line!

Hey Jay, I can only sympathize. I've just had my second infusion two weeks ago. I started flaring about a month before starting Remicade. Still flaring and have bumped back up to 30mg pred this week because I am tired of it. I had a couple of good days when I thought the Remicade was working (no body pain!) but I don't think its doing much now. Here's hoping you and I will get some good results! Fingers crossed!!

Probably not a responder. about 60 or 65% of people have some luck, but the other 40 or so, do not. I was not a responder and it was as if I hadn't gotten any medication at all. Even if i went sooner, or got double the dose. I ended up getting sepsis from my immune system getting so weak from the drugs. Eventually I switched to entyvio, which failed (didn't do anything as well), and I had surgery. Now I live much better. I do not go to doctors, or rely on expensive, immune suppressing drugs. Surgery was the last thing I wanted, but now that it's in the past. Life just seems so much easier and more full of opportunities for me.

I hope he has luck with remicade, or with combo therapy, or with entyvio, but in younger men, these drugs can be riskier than for any other age group. After spending time in the ICU from the drugs, I see that sometimes the consequences of the drugs are worse than the illness, though I am realistic about the fact that the drugs help many people, many more than they harm by FAR. Regardless, I am happy to be done with them. Being dependent on a 20k infusion is awful.

another thing I forgot to mention, always do stool tests when there is no response. It could be that he has something bacterial in addition to his UC.
