Sulfasalazine Side Effects

I just started taking sulfasalazine three days ago. The first day there was bad abdominal craming and D (all "normal") side effect on the pamphlet.

Second day I upped the meds to two, 500mg x2 (recommended by my GI to start slow) And no abdominal cramping, but flu-like symptoms, sweating, headache.

Today, day three I've had no bloody D and no urgency, pretty amazing! I'd love to keep on this drug to see if it's the remission saver I need! (allergic to other drugs in this class like Lialda) And had a reaction to Imuran.

From experience are these side effects normal? Do I just need to roll with the punches for a while for them to get used to my body.

Yes, you should continue using it, and the headaches should get better. I'm not sure that doubling the dose in one day meets the criterion of "slow." It took me a month to go from 0.5 g to 1.5 g per day.
