Hello everyone,
My daughter has pancolitis and has gotten the second infusion of Remicade last week. She has been doing very well on it, but yesterday she started having discomfort and gasses with 2 BMS a day. Is this normal? I am afraid that Remicade stopped working confused She is 10 years old and I am so worried about her. Please advice.

How is she today? I would try not to worry about a one day episode. Increased gas and discomfort from the gas could be from something she ate that did not agree with her.

Hello John, thank you for respondingsmile She has been having gasses and mild discomfort since Saturday. It seems like Remicade takes time to take an action. Have you had gasses and mild discomfort while in remission? Thank you again for sharing your experience!

Sadly, remission isn't likely to happen after a second infusion. It can be a slow healing process. Give it time. If her symptoms have mostly calmed down, she's sounding to be on the right path.

GI doctors will generally tell you that as long as you're having LESS than six BM's a day, you're looking good. I know that's a high number, still. But when you're in a flare, you'll be running to the bathroom easily 20+ times a day.

After starting remicade, it took about 2 months for my symptoms to really calm down. I still have gas, and have discomfort from time to time, but most often that is associated with food, in my opinion.

If symptoms are getting better, I would say its better to continue treatments, and deal with a little gas/discomfort here and there.
