Hi All!

I haven’t posted for a long time, but I do lurk here and there wink

I had a routine colonoscopy last week, as I do every two years now. The doc said there was no active disease (yay!!), but he did remove two growths. This was a first for me, as I’ve never had a polyp before. What puzzled me was he said he wasn’t sure just by looking at them whether they were polyps or inflammation adenomas. Has anyone else had experience with these? I believe he said they were close to the rectum, so should I request some kind of rectal drugs for inflammation?

I'd wait for the pathology report and see exactly what they were.

First there's false-polyps, a.k.a Inflammatory-polyps which are caused by inflammation, aren't real polyps, are of no worry, form and fall off on their own, and are common with IBD/UC patients. I had one in a sigmoidoscopy, my doctor left it there, my doctor wasn't in the slightest bit worried about it. We talked about it, he said they're always non-cancerous, form as inflammation heals, and fall off on their own. Sure enough, my next sigmoidoscopy found none (it fell off as he said it would).

Otherwise, it's likely your garden-variety polyp. Everybody gets them at some point. Slight cancer risk, but most often benign (that is non-cancerous).

The pathology report will tell a lot more about what it is, if there's any or no cancer risk, and whether it affects your colonoscopy screening intervals. Might or might not depending on what it is. I wouldn't worry!

Thank you so much! That makes me feel a lot better. I have never heard of the false polyps. That must be what my doc was saying. He didn’t seem concerned at all. I think he removed them just to be on the safe side since he wasn’t for sure what they were.

Good to hear no active inflammation!

Polyps are always scary....it's good only two and that they were removed. Hopefully they are pseudopolyps related to inflammation areas. I've had them in the past.

Everything came back fine, thank God! The polyps turned out to be hyper-plastic. All of the other biopsies were benign as well.
