Hi
I currently have moderate pancolitis. My humira went up to weekly on Thursday. Ive never had joint pain before and had UC over ten years.
I have a sudden onset of joint pain in my left hand middle knuckle and small joints of fingers. And pain in my pelvis.
Is this UC? Or is it a side effect of humira? Any ideas anyone? Rhanks

Or osteo or RA.
When were your last blood tests?
You should consult yiur GI and hopefully will be sent for xrays at the very least.

Hi quincy thanks for reply.
I dont think its oa im a bit young for that. Also dont think its ra as my joints arent swollen just painful.
Sorry which blood tests do you mean? I had some bloods done at my last clinic in May but dont know what ones apart from humira level and humira antibodies which were both fine.

Joint pain is one of the most common extra-intestinal manifestations of UC. about
25% of us get it. Here's a good read from the Crohn's and colitis foundation of america:

I had joint pain on higher doses of biologics. My GI always said it was the UC, but once I stopped the biologics, I was better. Biologics didn't work for me, so the answer was obvious. If you're doing well, it's a different decision.

Thanks guys.
Notsosickly I have a feeling its a med side effect. Its appearance coincided with the humira going up to weekly.
Im not doing well. Ive got mod pancolitis getting worse despite humira. So I guess I just need to wait it out and see if the weekly helps.

Correlation doesn't necessarily equal causation. Possible but also possible it is coincidental. If you were to get a side effect, like joint pain, from a biologic then I would get an anti-body test, as antibodies are most likely to result in side effects like that.
