Since about
the time my UC first got triggered I've noticed that I get a lot of mucus in the back of my throat, especially at night when I'm trying to get to sleep. Could this in any way be related to my UC?

Not sure, but it's worth mentioning to your doc.
Any allergies that could be causing it?

Are you a smoker, smokers tend to have a tendancy to get alot of phelgm, which is basically mucus from the lungs or throat and I don't think phelgm really has any connection specifically to IBD in general.

I'm curious about
that too. I'm not sure if it's post nasal drip or what! I went to an allergy clinic and had all the tests and apparently I'm not allergic to anything. He gave me this foul nosespray to use. The nasty taste lasts longer than the effect does.
I have a ton of snot back there ALL THE TIME. It is the same whether I am lying down or sitting up. It doesn't seem to be better or worse through out the day. It sorta stays the same. I don't have a sinus infection, it's not allergies and it isn't a cold. I have had it for years but it does seem to have gotten worse since I was dx'd with UC.
I don't smoke, drink or do anything else either. And I drink PLENTY of water.

Yes, I've had the same problem since being diagnosed and also wondered if there was a connection.

I am experiencing the same thing. I feel like I have mucus in my throat and that I'm going to choke or gag. My doctor answered my question with questions of her own and I don't really feel like I got an answer.

This is an old thread, but I would suggest you ask your doctor about
acid reflux. It can be a cause of post nasal drip. An ear nose and throat doc can take a look with a small camera. Very quick procedure and painless.

Ok old thread, but might be silent gerd.
It is not the acid that might come up but some digestive enzymes, that can only
be destroyed by high ph. Try gargling with some baking soda water, and
see if that has any effect.

I went to see an ENT Doc who recommended Flonase 2 sprays/nostril in the morning. Almost completely cleared it up.

I was diagnosed with UC on 6/20/18 and rx'd 3 800 mg of mesalamine per day. about
a month ago I felt like a pill got stuck in my throat. For three days my throat felt swollen and kind of hurt. Reg MD prescribed some steroid pills which I took for 2 days and the pain and swollen feeling went away.
Since then it seems like water or saliva kinda chokes me up pretty often. Not mucous.

I've looked at some of the posts on phlegm in the throat. I went to an ENT because I thought I had post nasal drip and was diagnosed with Silent Acid Reflux which involves a swelling of the asophagus (sp?). Since I was diagnosed, my gastro dr has prescribed pantoprazole 40 mg. and I was told to sleep in a position which elevates my head, also to know that certain foods will cause me to go into a coughing jag. It's as though I have a tickle in the back of my throat. Foods that can cause problems include, coffee, tea, chocolate, tomatoes, fried foods. I've had a swallow test and I'm seeing my gastro dr. today to discuss this and my UC.
Hope this helps.
