Day 3 after open surgery - subtotal colectomy and end ileostomy

As the title says!
I am trying to be philosophical and positive. The first 2 days were really hard I struggled to move partially as was soooo sedated. Morphine plus max dose quetiapine meant i looked and sounded very drunk!
Better day today have managed a short walk with physio and have emptied stoma bag myself. Its pure liquid as I'm barely eating.
I got really sick really fast this time. There was no way i couldve lasted til vedolizumab worked. I was being transfused as lost so much blood. My albumin is 18 so myvarms and legs are swollen. I had persistent very fast heart rate for weeks prior to surgery. Was 140 the other day
Now the bowel is out its back at a sweet 84 yay!
Apparently the whole 4 ft of colon was very inflamed so im glad its out and i cam concentrate on recovery. Its going to be a while til im back at gym lifting so just taking one day at a time.

Happy to hear you're doing well. It's a big change, and a lot to take in, but it sounds like you're staying positive and regaining your strength. Getting up and walking around is the best thing for you, but there's no way around it, it takes time and patience. Once you get the hang of the bag it's easy. Are you going for a jpouch?

Obviously the right thing to do regarding timing and your prior condition.
Happy to hear heart rate has lowered....can't imagine 140, yikes.
Hope each day has recovery improvement with no setbacks.

Hi nssg. I am doing ok i think. I am actually finding the midline incision more difficult than the stoma in terms of pain and moving about. No idea about j pouch yet. I will see how i find living with my baggy for a while. My surgeon did say he would not do it til ive had all my babies!
Quincy yeah i think so. I was having palpitations and nearly fainting. They said it was part of being v unwell. I met all those truelove criteria for anaemic high pulse high crp fever etc. Its nice not to have my heart pounding any more!
