exhaustion and muscle pain

Dear All, I seem to be in an endless cycle of poor sleep and exhausted days. I think gas makes me wake up at night, around 2:30-3am and I can't sleep anymore. In the day, I'm exhausted. In fact, sometimes I can barely walk. Which is terrible because I have to lecture students. My thyroid seems fine and the blood work seems to show that all is OK. Also, I think I've inflammation all over my body since even the soles of my feet hurt. I'm not sure how to deal with this. Besides work, I'm mostly house-bound.

I had that same thing for awhile. My vitamin d, iron and iodine were all low, along with my thyroid levels. But I do have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis so that was the cause of the low thyroid. Once I got my d and iron up to the high normal levels, I started sleeping better. This in turn helped with everything else. Did your doc check your d and iron?

I get this, and it is associated with whether my meds are working or not. Each time they have stopped working or I need some sort of adjustment, boom, body aches and exhaustion. Prednisone also makes me feel arthritic. A couple of things help me. First, warm baths at night before bed, and then a good session of stretching/rolling out my muscles. This helps get rid of any tension and lower inflammation and I get much better sleep when I do this. For the gas, try sleeping on your left side if you don't and also a bit elevated. Heating pads or a heated blanket also help me with both of these because it relaxes everything, causing the gas to release as I am falling asleep, and also helps with aches.

Hi teacher,

I completely understand your situation! I am a teacher too (I teach undergraduate students) and I have been in situations where I had to cancel class because I could not get up due to exhaustion and lack of sleep. For me, it turned out that I had really low iron levels and my doctor ordered iron infusions which made a huge difference. Another thing was taking Vitamin D and Vitamin B12 in the morning helped a lot with my energy levels. For gas, I try to finish eating dinner by 6:00 pm, and drink lots of fennel tea, which seems to reduce the gas during the night. I also use enteric coated peppermint oil capsules. I still have pain in my legs, not sure how to handle them.

Thank you all for your advice. I do use a heating pad - it's weird to do so in the summer, but I sometimes need to even then.
My blood work seems fine, at first glance. Perhaps, I should ask for a more detailed analysis.

Could be UC-related, having exhaustion and muscle pains.

Have you tried an anti-inflammatory supplement like turmeric/curcumin? Also a blood thinner.

Have you considered swapping Apriso for Sulfasalazine (a medication that treats both UC and also Rheumatoid arthritis)?

Thanks iPoop. I'm scheduled to meet with my physician later this month. Hopefully, he'll have something to address this.

I legit had my a/c on with a heating pad the other night. It is what it is.
