Hi folks
Its been a while since my last post hope you guys are doing well. Want to know your experience with Asacol as i'm switching to it from generic lialda. I know that lialda is extended release formulation which releases drug in entire colon. But i've the doubt whether asacol does same thing if i can take same dose as lialda. My GI is going put me on 4*3 asacol a day as most of generic lialda which i'm currently taking is appearing as a whole in poop. Wondering if asacol treats left colon atleast upto sigmoid as i'm taking suppositories to treat rectum. I was on enemas earlier but was not able to tolerate, so no choice except relying on orals.

Yes, all forms of oral mesalamine treat the left-side. The coating, release point, and release rate all vary a little bit among them all but it would be only minor differences which you may or may not notice.

The iffy part will be the rectum/sigmoid junction....

I meant with just supps and not enemas.....although, they can be stacked one and then another.
Possibilities to make it work 🤔

Thanks ipoop, thanks quincy. Right now my inflammation is above mid sigmoid upto beginning of transverse colon. I'll switch to 1gm suppository instead of 2 500mg suppository hope that takes care of recto/sigmoid junction as well.

Sorry suppositories only coat the rectum, and nothing beyond. You need an enema to go up the entire left side. Radiology has shown enemas to go as far as the splenic flexure (bend where transverse colon and left side of colon connect).
