Good morning. I have has watery diarrhea since Bermuda. First things first ..had colonoscopy and it was clear. He then started me on flagyl incase infection. Well, im no better. I guess my y question is :Since i also have IC along with IBS and i did hear him say during colonoscopy he saw tiny bit of inflammation, shldnt i assume a have a little colitis? I am at a loss, but no way to live!!! TIA

Well "clear" and "a little inflammation" are contradictory. But it is unusual for a little inflammation to give so much D.

I would get 1 or 2 c-diff tests. Flagyl does not always work. c-diff after travel seems plausible.

If it is just a little inflammation, your regular UC meds should handle it in a bit f time. What do you take?

Did the doc do biopsies, and what were the results? Stool testing should be done for sure.

What UC meds are you on?
How many times a day are you going?

no biopsies and I am on just the flagyl. I did start cymbolta in Oct and have had this since then. My pcp wait to go off it and see if its something else first , but kind of makes sense.

So during a c-scope...and you have UC?...and no biopsies? Makes no sense.

No UC meds?

Get stool samples done.

And I’m thinking he shld of done biopsies ... I’m so paranoid w all this that something is really wrong with me . I stop when I take lomotil but that’s not the answer

I'd recommend getting a copy of your colonosopy report and biopsy report as therein would lay the answers you seek. If you are not actively being treated for an infection or an IBD then you likely do NOT have them. It's probably your anxiety running wild.

Also of note, the colonoscopy prep itself can cause very mild inflammation as it is so harsh. That happened to me once, doctor said either very mild inflammation or it's entirely from the prep. Biopsies confirmed it was superficial, surface irritation caused by the prep itself.

Flagyl is garbage. Its cure rate for parasites is very low. Specialists who know what they're doing almost never use it by itself anymore, they combine it with other antibiotics.

If they didn't diagnose a parasite, then how do they even know what to use in order to treat it? Throwing random antibiotics into the body with the hope that you'll get better is not evidenced based medicine.

It's possible your body picked up some unfamiliar microbes in your travels. They may or may not be parasites. People all over the world have different gut flora based on where they live, what they eat, the water they drink, etc.

The modern medical O&P test for parasites is also garbage. You need to fork over some money to get proper testing with a comprehensive lab, like Genova, DoctorsData, or any that does PCR testing and comprehensive stool cultures.
